2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

Torpedo Pilsner is a hop-forward take on the crisp classic lager. We and the folks at Firestone Walker share a passion for New Zealand hop varietals, so we loaded our legendary Hop Torpedo with southern hemisphere hops for a fruity, floral twist on the pilsner style.

Just down the road from us in California’s Central Coast wine country, this rock star brewery has earned “Mid-size Brewery of the Year” at the World Beer Cup four times. Like us, Firestone is passionate about hops. Their skill with the ingredient shines in their Pale Series and elsewhere in a long beer lineup driven by a premier brewing team.

Clear straw hue under a very generous pillowy white head. Sharp grassy nose with a slight twang of tropical juciness and grass pollen. Smooth and very balanced flavor with a lively carbonation and more complexity than the standard pilsner. Starts hoppy strong with grassy bitterness and a playful bit of papaya and grains of paradise, but quickly turns dry and biscuity. Finishes with some notes of clean blonde cracker and bitter grassy pepper.

Pours golden yellow with half a finger of white head. Smells of malt, fruity hops, citrus and grass. Taste is light and crisp, malty backbone with notes of light lemon citrus balanced by a hint of hops on the finish. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Aroma of metallic pilsner malts, faint citrus, fruity coriander, lemon and hop citrus. Bright yellow appearance with a white foam rim. Velvety smooth tastes of coriander, banana, pilsner malts and lemon on the overtones. Gentle notes of caramel and biscuit malt sneak onto the palate. Finishes dry with noticeable hop presence. Overall, no complaint on this pils at all. Really nice balance and light biscuit. A- rating.

Pours a bright gold with a white head. Aroma is piney with a hint of grain. The taste is much nicer. Nice hop presence with some pine up front, a floral, tropical note in the middle. Finish with a bit more pine. Nice crisp clean finish. Not a light bodied beer. Nice medium body to it.

This hoppy pilsner pours into a bright clear golden color. With a smooth fluffy white head that leaves a spotty lacing. Not much aroma. A slight wheat hop nose. A very fluffy an airy mouthfeel. A wheat flavor base that ends with a little hop twist. Nothing overpowering. A bit of grassy lemon flavors. Very crisp and fresh.

12oz bottle pours a pale slightly hazy yellow/golden with a small white head. Aroma has a solid pils yeast with slight caramel and fruity and grassy hops. Taste of sweet bready caramel malt, nice yeast presence, grassy hops, some fruity hops, with a nice bitter hop finish. Wow really nice!!
