COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

Inspired by the perennial café favorite, Double Latte combines two of the greatest things in life: good coffee and great beer. Oregon’s Ninkasi Brewing knows their way around a good cup of joe. Featuring cold-press coffee from the legendary Stumptown Coffee Roasters and a dose of milk sugar, this coffee milk stout is a rich and roasty treat.

This young-gun brewery has a locomotive charge. A rich conversation at a local bottle shop in 2005 has morphed into a Pacific Northwest staple. Named after the Sumerian goddess of fermentation, Ninkasi’s first batch of beer was Total Domination IPA and it remains a must for those with a lupulin itch.

Pour is a slightly red-tinged opaque black with a light brown head with some big bubbles mixed in too. Deeply roasted coffee makes up most of the aroma along with a bit of alcohol and some dark chocolate. Flavor has the lactose coming in a little strong for my tastes, but the coffee and roasted malts almost keep it in check. The thick and chewy mouthfeel is a treat. Aftertaste is sweet and sticky along with lingering coffee. Really really good, would love to see this in regular production.

12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark brown pour with a short khaki head. Aroma of roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Taste of espresso, heavy cream, bitter baker’s chocolate, and faint floral hops. Lingering bitter finish but certainly not unpleasant. Awesome brew!

Out of the box dated June 19th, 2014, this was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a pure black color with a one to two finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Speckled and somewhat foamy lacing graced the sides of the glass. Being a fan of Ninkasi, I might have a slight bias towards their beers but hey, this smell is absolutely awesome as there’s a super nice bitter coffee and slight espresso aroma inside of a light chocolate - dry roasted and enthralling. The taste was mainly the same sweet and roasty thing going on with a nice inviting sticky sweetness coating my taste buds. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued and good for the style. There’s a nice sticky sweet and roasty coating over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a wonderful offering by two more than solid beer companies. This could be my favorite out of beer camp this year.

Black pour under a tan foamy head. Lovely nose of chocolate and toasty malts with some roast and wonderful coffee aromas. But a fair amount of roast on the nose. Nice rich flavor of coffee infused chocolate with some earthy roast malt tones, a bitter earthy caramel, and a darkly sweet malt body. The coffee tones are a bit earthy bitter, but it’s tempered by some earthy chocolate tones. And roast. Creamy sweet finish.

Black body with a tan head. The aroma has a strong coffee presence, with some chocolate and burnt notes. There is a touch of caramel mixed in there too. The flavor packs a lot of coffee upfront, with a nice transition into sweet, roasty stout. The finish comes out very well balanced, with some sharp coffee notes blending with smooth residual sugars. Rich body with no alcohol notes.

Bottle. Pretty much everything you’d expect from a beer called "double latte." Black coffee, with a thin but well retaining head of tan, with a lactose wave atop the giant java undertow. (#5738, 9/14/2014)

Bottle, as pictured. Poured a dark brown opaque color. Very very heavy on the coffee, somewhat on the chocolate. Certainly very sweet.

Jet black with a tan head and minimal lace. Deep rich bittersweet baker’s chocolate and roasted coffee. Full body, lusciously creamy smooth mouthfeel and a rich dark chocolate finish.
