2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

As longtime friends, Russian River brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo and our own Brian Grossman are no strangers to brewing experiments. While looking for inspiration for this collaboration, Vinnie and Brian decided to honor the creations of legendary Belgian brewer Yvan De Baets with their own hop-forward American-Belgian mash-up.

From complex Belgian-inspired styles to American wild ales and hoppy Double IPA’s, Russian River always pushes boundaries while respecting technique and quality. Co-owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are longtime friends of Sierra Nevada and they always have a six-pack of Pale Ale in their fridge at home.

The aroma is yeasty, spicy, fruity. The appearance is hazy light yellow, white head. The flavor is yeasty, spicy, fruity. The finish is pepper, slight sweetness. Medium in body. Good representation of the style, if a little boring.

Bottle to pint glass. The pour is hazy yellow with a half finger white head. The aroma is funky Belgian yeast and citrus. The taste is bright citrus and Belgian. A bit funky and barny. The finish is easy and very drinkable. There's good carbonation as well. Decent stuff if a bit underwhelming considering the pedigree of both Sierra Nevada and Russian River. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This was disappointing. Looked nice in the glass, a wonderful gold crowned with an attractive head. But that’s as far as it went. Drinkable, but not satisfying. The hops did nothing but work against the yeast, for me, and ended up with a mildly harsh, slightly metallic edge.

Type: 12-oz.bottle Glass: Modern Times pint glass From: Albertsons in Alpine, Calif. Price: $25.99 for the variety Beer Camp Across America 12-pack Purchased: Oct. 17, 2014 Consumed: Oct. 26, 2014 Misc.: Collaboration with Russian River Brewing Company; Packaged May 24, 2014 at 2:09 p.m. Poured a golden, pale, clear color with five fingers of khaki white rocky head. Lots of streams of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Uneven, spiderweb foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.38) Initial thought after the first whiff was a hoppy spicy saison. Got wet foamy hops, hay, grassy notes, sourdough bread, honey, caramel, spicy Belgian cloves, green grapes, yeast and green apple. (Smell - 3.88) Tasted pretty close to the nose. Got grassy hops, hay, sourdough bread, cereal (Corn Pops or Kix), cloves, Belgian spices (not as potent as smell), cornbread, green grapes, green apple, light Citra hops, caramel and honey. (Taste - 3.88) Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long, spicy Belgian finish. (Feel - 3.88) I really liked this beer. Spicy saison is what I keep coming up with. Good beer for the style. (Overall - 3.88) 3.91 88 B+
