COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

As longtime friends, Russian River brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo and our own Brian Grossman are no strangers to brewing experiments. While looking for inspiration for this collaboration, Vinnie and Brian decided to honor the creations of legendary Belgian brewer Yvan De Baets with their own hop-forward American-Belgian mash-up.

From complex Belgian-inspired styles to American wild ales and hoppy Double IPA’s, Russian River always pushes boundaries while respecting technique and quality. Co-owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are longtime friends of Sierra Nevada and they always have a six-pack of Pale Ale in their fridge at home.

Bottle from Beer Camp Across America pack into tulip glass, hazy golden color with faint amber hue and white head. Aroma of peppery yeast, candy sugar, clove, grain and citrus. Taste adds notes of lemon, mineral, grass, faint spices and somewhat herbal. Medium-light body, low-moderate carbonation, crisp, dry with some spicy/hop bitter finish. Good Belgian Ale.

Pours a pale golden blonde. The liquid is clear and bright. Full, fizzy white head. A solid layer of tiny bubbles. Moderate lacing. The head fades relatively quickly but it seems to be easy to swirl up more bubbles. The aroma is sweet with pale malt shot through with an earthy yeast. Mild cider note, some citrus. Some honey flavor. As it warms, bubblegum and cough syrup comes out. The taste starts off with a good amount of malt sweetness and a Belgian yeastiness. Apples, grapes, citrus, grain, earth. Herbal flavors linger. Mild pepper. Mouthfeel is fairly light and gets a bit oily as the beer warms and loses carbonation. It’s almost there but could be livelier and crisper. Just lacks a bit of brightness. Decent enough but forgettable compared to other Belgian ales.

12 oz. bottle. Pours light golden, with a small, bubbly, white head. The aroma is butterscotch, oregano, cloves, and some strong floral and earthy hops. Sweet up front, with a significant bitterness through the finish. Medium body, crisp, astringent, and clingy. Overall, this is a very hoppy, aromatic beer, but with nice, spicy, yeasty notes.

Nicely balanced Belgian blonde ale. Good clove and spice from the yeast. Citrus hops blend nicely without overpowering. No complaints, but it didn’t blow me away.

Look: pours a straw yellow. Thick white head that hangs around. Hazy cold. Smell: lemon. Malt. Citrus. Sour. Taste: malt. Lemon. Citrus. Slight bitterness. Definite sourness as it warms up. Feel: good carbonation. Slight dryness on the backend. Overall: better than expected for a Belgian blonde. First drank: 7/30/14 home
