2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

As longtime friends, Russian River brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo and our own Brian Grossman are no strangers to brewing experiments. While looking for inspiration for this collaboration, Vinnie and Brian decided to honor the creations of legendary Belgian brewer Yvan De Baets with their own hop-forward American-Belgian mash-up.

From complex Belgian-inspired styles to American wild ales and hoppy Double IPA’s, Russian River always pushes boundaries while respecting technique and quality. Co-owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are longtime friends of Sierra Nevada and they always have a six-pack of Pale Ale in their fridge at home.

Interestingly disappointing in regards to the stylistic improvisations that these two breweries took. The belgian nature of the beer feels eviscerated, with sharper, more floral notes of the hops bucking heads. Not a fantastic combination.

Bottle from the mix pack. Pours a mostly clear golden color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is a little yeasty with a fair amount of clove in there, and just screams Belgian. Taste is a little sweet and seems to have a lot of grain elements to it, and just doesn’t strike me as all that interesting. Meh.

Pours very light in color from tap and smells of coriander to me. Tastes a bit spicy and crisp. Great for the warmer weather. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Piss blonde. Holds a tiny white ring head. Aroma is fruity as hell, yes, hell is fruity, and full of bubblegum like a weisse weizen wheat beer. Hahahhah. Tastes like straight up Fleer double bubble. Pretty horrible for a beer but a great starter to get kids addicted with all that sugary sweetness familiar to the American palate.

Pours a clear golden with white head. Hay, cereal, and yeast on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a little floral note.

Bottle from Beer Camp Across America pack into tulip glass, hazy golden color with faint amber hue and white head. Aroma of peppery yeast, candy sugar, clove, grain and citrus. Taste adds notes of lemon, mineral, grass, faint spices and somewhat herbal. Medium-light body, low-moderate carbonation, crisp, dry with some spicy/hop bitter finish. Good Belgian Ale.

Pours golden with a finger of dense white head. Aroma is floral with hints of yeast and citrus. Taste is sweet with a moderate complex bitterness throughout. A delicious beer!

Pours a pale golden blonde. The liquid is clear and bright. Full, fizzy white head. A solid layer of tiny bubbles. Moderate lacing. The head fades relatively quickly but it seems to be easy to swirl up more bubbles. The aroma is sweet with pale malt shot through with an earthy yeast. Mild cider note, some citrus. Some honey flavor. As it warms, bubblegum and cough syrup comes out. The taste starts off with a good amount of malt sweetness and a Belgian yeastiness. Apples, grapes, citrus, grain, earth. Herbal flavors linger. Mild pepper. Mouthfeel is fairly light and gets a bit oily as the beer warms and loses carbonation. It’s almost there but could be livelier and crisper. Just lacks a bit of brightness. Decent enough but forgettable compared to other Belgian ales.
