2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

As longtime friends, Russian River brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo and our own Brian Grossman are no strangers to brewing experiments. While looking for inspiration for this collaboration, Vinnie and Brian decided to honor the creations of legendary Belgian brewer Yvan De Baets with their own hop-forward American-Belgian mash-up.

From complex Belgian-inspired styles to American wild ales and hoppy Double IPA’s, Russian River always pushes boundaries while respecting technique and quality. Co-owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are longtime friends of Sierra Nevada and they always have a six-pack of Pale Ale in their fridge at home.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours golden with a lacy, white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, some pale malts and some floral hops. Flavor the same but sort of soap-like with the hops/Belgian yeast blend. Average texture. A decent beer, not my favorite.

Poured into a tulip. Pours a very pale yellow, half finger head which quickly dissipates which does leave some lacing. Aroma is full of clove, wheat, honey, yeast - maybe a touch of ash underneath? Very traditional belgian aroma profile. Taste - while the aroma is typical belgian golden, the taste is similar in ways, but very different in others. There’s a lot of hop note - sappy, resin, pine fills the mouth mid-way through. Initially you get a bit of that belgian golden ale note, then it goes to the the sappy/pine flavor. There’s a residual, long-lasting finish of pine/resin. Almost a little hot on the finish. Not a huge fan of this - probably because I really like a very traditional golden. This isn’t bad, just different which I think is the whole point of these Beer Camp ales.

Pale Yellow, wispy white head. Aroma of banana, bubblegum, clove (typical belgian yeast notes). Flavor carried over from the aroma with a nice bitter hop punch. Very enjoyable.

06/02/14 beer camp bottle. Pours a clear, pale yellow with a film of a white head. Aroma has notes of citrus, candy sugar, bubble gum, slight spice, and a mild hoppiness. Taste is traditional Belgian. Very slightly sweet but balanced. Bubble gum, candy sugar, slight citrus/piney hops, and a short, clean aftertaste. Medium body with a medium-high carbonation. Clean in the with a near effervescent carbonation. Overall a mildly, American hoppy, Belgian. Clean and easy drinking.

Aromas of banana, cereal, clove, honey. Clear gold, mostly lasting white head. Honey sweetness, bready malts, orange peel in the finish. Some spice, light-medium bodied, cushy, doughy.

Pours a Budwieser or Miller Lite in appearance. Nice hoppy aroma with a hint of a Belgian fruity banana yeast nose. Flavor is similar to the aroma with toasty malt, dry finish and a clean hops bitterness on the tongue finally finishing with more of the creamy banana yeast flavor. Overall, I am partial to hoppy Belgian ales... this one is perfect for the summer!

12oz bottle via Beer Camp 12 pack from Berkeley Spirits. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a finger of frothy white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, wheat, lemon citrus, and hints of licorice. Taste mimics the nose with more bitter citrus peel, and fruity esters.

Clear golden with a small head not much retention. Relatively mild aroma of fruity esters, and phenol. Some citrus and slightly floral hops in there too. The flavor is similar, with a lot more citrus and a fairly dry finish.

12 oz bottle from BC Across America variety pk- Pours hazy golden with a thin white head that reduces to a thin collar pretty quickly, this is the only beer in the entire 12 pk i think that did not have an outstanding head. Aroma is very tart, apples, pear and other citrus, Belgian yeast and sugars. The taste is very similar to a Belgian pale ale, with an added hop punch, banana and clove, spicy hops, citrusy as hell, kind of salty which seems odd. Very good, the hops blend wonderfully with the Belgian flavors.
