2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

3 Floyds has a reputation as the Midwestern kings of alpha (hops), and it seems that one of our beers helped to lure them down the lupulin-paved path. Chico King is a mash-up of our mutual passion for hoppy pale ales and combines a uniquely robust malt body with intense citrusy and fruity new school hop varietals.

3 Floyds marches to the beat of their own (double kick) drum when it comes to collaboration, often partnering with comic book artists, tattoo parlors or heavy metal bands when inspiration strikes. These eclectic beers are coveted throughout the Midwest and some beers, like the legendary Dark Lord Imperial Stout, have spawned something akin to a beer-themed holiday in the brewery’s hometown of Munster, IN.

Bottle from Beer Camp 12 pack box. Home snifter. Pours an amber with a one finger head. Aroma is pine with muddled soil and grass/weeds. The taste is also a little earth/peat with a pine and wet grass taste. Kind of hop bitterness with a wet grass finish. Not my favorite of the group. Medium light body and moderate carb.

Nice malty and lightly hoppy aroma from a golden amber body with a foamy off-white head. Strong earthy, pithy, light grapefruit hop bite right from start. Well balanced caramel malt sweetness to tame the bitterness a bit, but the bitter keeps building and biting, but not overly so. Seems a bit like SN Pale Ale with a bit more hops kicked in. Nice pale ale, but probably the most mainstream of the Beer Camp case.

Bottle. Pours clear copper with fizzy off-white head. Aroma is pale and toasted malts, light caramel, light floral notes, and light berries. Flavor is dry malts, medium hop bitterness, light spice, and faint berry sweetness buried in there; dry finish with a little hop bitterness lingering. Medium body and carbonation.

From a bottle. Pours clear reddish copper with a fizzy bubbly beige head. Tastes like herbs, spicy hops, dry lemon, cracker malt. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like herbs, sweet citrus, and doughy malt.

solid PA, would have like a little more hops, but is a smooth beer that goes down easy, some citrus hints as well and slightly bitter finish

Bottle @ home. Clear orange/amber pour with a small dense off-white head. Nose is really quite bready and toasty. Hops are grassy with a hint of orange. Taste is predominantly grain with orange peel and an earthy hop character. Really a very nice pale. Very continental in its tendencies, but with some bright lively hop features. Mouthfeel is just a touch heavy for a pale ale. Feels more like an IPA. And I swear there are more than the 45 IBUs advertised. Well-balanced and delicious.

Pours fairly light with lots of soaps frothy foam. Tastes of lighter malts, biscuits and toast. Very, very floral, with pine resin and a little bitterness.

A bit thin. No aroma to speak of, but could be the smoke bbq smell at restaurant. A bit sweet with mild malt finish. Well balanced sippable beer for a hot day
