2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

3 Floyds has a reputation as the Midwestern kings of alpha (hops), and it seems that one of our beers helped to lure them down the lupulin-paved path. Chico King is a mash-up of our mutual passion for hoppy pale ales and combines a uniquely robust malt body with intense citrusy and fruity new school hop varietals.

3 Floyds marches to the beat of their own (double kick) drum when it comes to collaboration, often partnering with comic book artists, tattoo parlors or heavy metal bands when inspiration strikes. These eclectic beers are coveted throughout the Midwest and some beers, like the legendary Dark Lord Imperial Stout, have spawned something akin to a beer-themed holiday in the brewery’s hometown of Munster, IN.

Bottle from Beer Camp Mixed Pack. Pours a nice caramel orange with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, light grapefruit, some orange, and some mild grass and pine. Flavor is orange, some caramel, and some mild pine. Understated malts and hops considering Alpha King and SNPA. Light to medium in body and kind of a surprise.

I had hoped for a little more on this one, and was semi let down. It’s an OK beer, just not as good as I expected. Nothing really stand out. Some citrus and resinous notes on the nose. Earthy and citrusy notes for flavor with a Medium-High carbonation and semi dry finish.

Pours dark copper with a finger frothy head that laces glass. Smell hops, resin, citrus and roasted malt. Taste earthy malt, hops, grass and citrus. Complex. Heavy body, heavy carbonation.

Pours clear golden amber with a thick and persistent buff head. Hoppy aroma has a firm fruity underpinning. Flavor is quite hoppy, more woody than evergreen, with a sweet fruity underpinning. Texture is lively and rather firm. Budweiser shmudweiser - here is a better choice for "King of beers"!

Salmoniform (832) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - OCT 17, 2014
Poured from bottle to glass. Golden copper hue with creamy off white head that dissipated to a thin ring. Aroma is caramel, bread, cereal, spice, grapefruit. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness followed by a spicy hop bitterness that extends through the finish. Overall this is a decent brew.

Poured a hazy orange yellow with a off head. It had a very subtle hop aroma with light malt notes. Very hoppy up front almost borderline ipa. It also had a bread malty taste. Finish with hot from the alcohol.

Bottle: Hazy orange with off white head. Aroma is very light fruit. Nice citrus and fruit hops as advertised almost IPA amounts, weird malt with burnt and biscuit flavors coming through.

Flavors exhibit the yeast and lite woody hops. Seems muttled and not very punchy however, that could be from the bottle date of 15 may. Almost 2 month old beer here....however i dont think this beer was very hoppy when it was fresh. i dunno but it just doesnt do much for me as a three floyds beer but for sierra nevada, its solid. very dry finish with toasted malt and lite woody hops.

Really good pale- wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. Pours a beautiful burnt copper color - deep and rich for a pale. Nose and taste is tons of caramel and dark-ish malts with nice tropical, citrus and earthy notes for balance. Some bitter notes at play, but not overly so. About right for the roast level of the malt. Bit of resin in there- somewhat slick in the mouth. Really enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with a one inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, hops, resin and caramel. Similar aroma. Has a medium body with a slight dry finish. Not bad.

Caramel in color. Toasty malt aroma with a hint of more caramel. Clean toasty malt flavor followed by... wait for it... more caramel. Finishes dry. Overall, I really get a ton of caramel notes. Its like drinking a beer that was fermented with real caramel... nice.
