COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

3 Floyds has a reputation as the Midwestern kings of alpha (hops), and it seems that one of our beers helped to lure them down the lupulin-paved path. Chico King is a mash-up of our mutual passion for hoppy pale ales and combines a uniquely robust malt body with intense citrusy and fruity new school hop varietals.

3 Floyds marches to the beat of their own (double kick) drum when it comes to collaboration, often partnering with comic book artists, tattoo parlors or heavy metal bands when inspiration strikes. These eclectic beers are coveted throughout the Midwest and some beers, like the legendary Dark Lord Imperial Stout, have spawned something akin to a beer-themed holiday in the brewery’s hometown of Munster, IN.

Bottle from Beer Camp Mixed Pack. Pours a nice caramel orange with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, light grapefruit, some orange, and some mild grass and pine. Flavor is orange, some caramel, and some mild pine. Understated malts and hops considering Alpha King and SNPA. Light to medium in body and kind of a surprise.

12 ounce bottle from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This beer has a big creamy off white head that leaves thick sticky lacing. It has a lot of carbonation and is amber in color. Aroma is not huge but is nice. I got peaches and tangerines with yeast. The flavor also begins with that fruit and yeast. Very mild bitterness. Malts are pale and are big here. An interesting beer and one that I kept hoping would go to the next level.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours clear copper with an off-white head that lasts a long time and leaves excellent lacing. Nose is citrus. Some fruit. Strykzone suggests peach and tangerine. I sense Thompson’s Seedless grapes. Mixture of aromas.. Medium body Smooth mouth feel. Flavor starts with tasty malts and displays a lot of flavor with the hops playing second fiddle. There is a light bitter finish. The fruit kind of dominates here and I do not know if it comes from the malts or the hops. Guessing hops. But no matter what this is a tasty beer and quite enjoyable.

December 19, 2014. Bottle at home.
Light hazy amber with a thick one-inch off.white head. Aroma is chocolate pudding, grass, pine and citrus. Taste is light to medium sweet with milky chocolate pudding notes with light to medium bitter grassy notes. Finish is soft bitter. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation. A bit surprised by the chocolate pudding notes but still good.

Bottle shared by Brian. Chico King 6.5% a nice orange-copper pour with a foamy white head. Mild hoppy bitterness, a bit dank + fruity/floral. A clean bitterness but fairly one dimensional.

Crisp copper and light amber coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright grassy and herbal hops with a pungent and present earthy malt showing a lot of caramel. Medium-bodied; Strong hop flavours at first with a definite pine and grassy flavour showing some good malt and a subdued sweetness of caramel at the end. Aftertaste shows a mellow malt with a complex hoppy flavour of grass, pine and flowers. Overall, a nice beer with a rich malt backbone and some good hops - but nothing overwhelmingly nice or great to sample - I’m sure a lot of these ratings are purely reputation alone. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle pulled from the sampler twelve pack, purchased at Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon Row) on 30-July-2014 for US$22/12 pack, sampled at home in celebration of running a marathon in Maryland on 29-November-2014.

Large, light brown head with excellent lacing. Aromas of straw malt, with an earthly / musty clove. Average flavor. Not very exciting.

Bottle. Pours clear burnt orange with fine cream colored head, settles quickly Aroma is citrus, piney, mildly resinous, with a mild biscuit, grain background. Flavor is citrus, bitter, mildly piney and resinous, with a bitter, mildly fruity finish. More malt character as it warms, wish I had tasted it sooner. Soft carbonation, medium body, smooth texture.
