2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

3 Floyds has a reputation as the Midwestern kings of alpha (hops), and it seems that one of our beers helped to lure them down the lupulin-paved path. Chico King is a mash-up of our mutual passion for hoppy pale ales and combines a uniquely robust malt body with intense citrusy and fruity new school hop varietals.

3 Floyds marches to the beat of their own (double kick) drum when it comes to collaboration, often partnering with comic book artists, tattoo parlors or heavy metal bands when inspiration strikes. These eclectic beers are coveted throughout the Midwest and some beers, like the legendary Dark Lord Imperial Stout, have spawned something akin to a beer-themed holiday in the brewery’s hometown of Munster, IN.

Bottle from Beer Camp Mixed Pack. Pours a nice caramel orange with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, light grapefruit, some orange, and some mild grass and pine. Flavor is orange, some caramel, and some mild pine. Understated malts and hops considering Alpha King and SNPA. Light to medium in body and kind of a surprise.

Bottle in NYC - thanks to Sander. Unexpectedly, this one seems a bit infected. It gushes upon opening and then pours a clear, deep gold with a creamy, off-white head. The aroma holds notes of brett, grass, melon and orange. Light-,edit sweet flavor with mild grassy bitterness, some rindy citrus fruits, a bit of farmy poo, wood, melon. Medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Nicely balanced to finish with further brett character, some bready sweetness, piney spice, grass, more rindy citrus, faint alcohol warmth. Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear copper tinged amber with a fairly large off white tanned beige head. Sticky malt on the nose with a spicy hop background, citrus and a touch of musky yeast. Medium bodied, soft malty sweetness, a touch of grain, light hops. Thins a touch into the finish, malt and citrus, slow low bitterness.

Man, I was hoping for big things from this beer given the iconic status of both breweries involved but I was left wanting. Very faint hop aroma. Average golden color and the palate was light and fizzy. Flavor was hoppy but mild with malts just showing up to the party. Good but not up to the standards of either brewery.

Tap. Dark copper. Some scattered lace. Mildly malty nose, interestingly. A very bready beer, mild hop... 3 Floyd’s AND Sierra Nevada with a mild, malt forward beer? Is this the apocalypse?

Amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is very fruity, background hoppiness, mildly sweet. Taste is similar to the aroma, a fruity hoppiness, sweeter then you’d expect, light alcohol with a smooth body.

Aroma is somewhat heavy and sweet with caramel and cereal. Also some fruity hops. Flavour has heavy with cereal, caramel, toffee, old hops and . More like American strong ale than pale ale.

355ml bottle from Saveur-Biere

PKGD: 05/15/14 - Pours dark orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of caramely malts, toffee, mild hoppy notes, hints of pine and resin. Taste is malty, sweet and stuffy with notes of caramel, toffee, aged hops, hints of resin and grass. Finish is sweet, malty and caramely with hints of aged hops and toffee. Quite malty and sweetish pale ale. Not very fresh, unfortunately.
