Black with cream head. Dark fruit and malt aroma with a faint roastiness. Nice balanced flavor, right down in the middle in terms of bitter/sweet, with some lingering hops in the finish. Thanks Mark!

Bomber. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Big-times prunes and freshly baked bread. Initial is a lot of heavy dark sugar / sugar balances out with the hopping > a sudden and satisfying change from initial to mid palate / finish is smooth and also quite sugary. Pleasant, rich, with a richly interesting route through the palate stages. Good stuff

Bottle, bought about 2 years ago. Nose of earthy hops, licorice, chocolate, alcohol burn. Sweet and earthy flavour, grassy, smooth, hops still great, with a peppery bitter finish. Nicely smooth and well integrated.

KyotoLefty sharing at Tadgís party, a good time was had by all! Bottle. It poured a dark brown/black with no real head. It was a very nice black barleywine. It had a fantastic chocolate aroma, lovely creamy mouthfeel, sweet chocolate, boozy but smooth taste with a bit of astringeancy in the aftertaste, excellent stuff.

Pours dark brown with a medium creamy tan head...nice lacing. Aroma has mild cadied and dark fruits atop firm roastiness. Flavor has nice roastiness, subtle dark fruit, and hints of coffee and vanilla. Mouthfeel is full and creamy with a roasty/slightly bitter warming finish...tasty!

Poured from the bottle. Been saving a few for a couple years now. Smells just like a barleywine. Nice tan head and looks a dark dark brown, close to black. Taste is great. The hops of subsided since I last tasted it. Very good beer. Still tastes like a barleywine, but you get a hint of the roasted character, just enough to know something is different here. Glad I still have more. Cant wait to see how if changes still.

A - Pours completely opaque with 2 fingers of dense mocha head that retains extremely well. Leaves behind an almost solid sheet of lacing.
S - Roasted malt, milk chocolate, pine needles, roasted coffee beans, vanilla alcohol.
T - Green hops provide a blast of citrus and pine resin right off the bat. Roasted malt, dark chocolate and caramel, has a woody/peppery bite. Smoked vanilla bean and dark roast coffee. Finishes with an astringent hop and alcohol bite. Hops stick to the tongue long after the finish.
M - Full bodied, low carbonation, viscous, warming.
Aggressive, robust, and well rounded. An interesting take on the style.
Even after aging, the hops are still very strong.
The hops fade off in the middle and come back around on the very finish. Glad I saved this for #400.

First smell..regular old barleywine type thing going on..but man. The Taste..starts off like some type of black beer i.e. a black lager or black ipa..then i get the barleywine..then a sour finish? One of the most unique beers iíve had the pleasure of drinking. Cheers to Sierra Nevada!

750 mL bottle. Looks and smells like a stout. As for the taste: itís not a stout, but itís not. barleywine either. American strong black ale? Some roast, but also some booze. Very smooth and creamy. As it warms it does become something approximating a black barleywine. Nice beer.

750 ml bottle got in a trade with Adam Jackson awhile back. Thanks for the opportunity. The tulip shows a dark black color with a tiny layer of tan head. Nose is rich toffee smelling malt with light pine hop notes. Starts malty as a Barley Wine does with the pine like hop in the middle of the sip. The finish has a roasted malt that would make you think of a stout. Secondary flavors of figs and pine hops. ABV is totally hidden from the age. The texture of the brew is amazing at this point as well. Absolutely delish.
