Commercial Description:
The 2007 Anniversary Ale features prominent usage of Cascade hops– the signature hop used in Sierra Nevada’s most popular product, Pale Ale. It is an American Style IPA with a big, fragrant pine and citrus hop aroma balanced by the sweetness of two-row pale and caramel malt. It finishes with an additional Cascade dry-hopping creating a big hop aroma Sierra Nevada fans will look forward to.

Poured clear dark orange with nice froathy manilla head. Aroma is sweet malt, citrus, and cut grass. Flavor is nice bitter bite, citrusy with prominent medium mouthfeel. Like an IPA should be.

Nice color to this beer, I was rather looking forward to trying it, since I am a big fan of Sierra Nevada as a whole. I was however a little dissapointed I love cascade hops, and this beer claims to showcase them. The problem is it does little else. It’s thin and bitter with no real balance of malt. I gave it a fairly high rating because I do so love the hops and from a lesser company I would consider it a valiant effort, but I expect a little better from what I consider to be the pinnacle of american Brewing companies.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber orange with a small head. Smells first of citrus fruit, hop, and some grass. Bittersweet flavor primarily, of hops, biscuit, and fruit. This beer features a rather simple medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Finishes bitter. Decent brew, but a bit boring, with none of the interest or intensity of say, Sierra Nevada’s Porter, Stout, or Celebration.

Copper ale, 1 inch forthy head. Bready, foody, and hoppy aroma. Flavor is foody like protein, with a hop note, which is rather strong. Flavor is also quite bitter, Palate is bitter, yet smooth, but foody. Finish is bitter and foody. I guess this would be othewise pretty good if I hadn’t eaten in a while.

Bottle. Pours golden orange, off white head. Aroma is hoppy: tangerine, kiwi, orange, with a nice caramel (malt) undercurrent. Flavor is hoppy and malty, but robust. Substantial, not overpowering and no peat detection. Nice lingering bitterness and bread-like flavor.

Well-balanced hops round out the lightly-roasted malt flavor. Overarching taste is citrus and pine...kind of like an original Sierra Nevada, just kicked up a couple of notches!

2008 bottle. Smells very citrusy, maybe some apricot too. Huge, lasting head. Refreshing and fruity. Finishes nice and dry. Pretty good, but not nearly as good as their Pale Ale or Celebration Ale.
