COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sierra nevada is a brewery that has long been famous for its liberal use of hops. Off-Kilter Scotch Ale proves once and for all that we can do malt too. This beer is a malt-bomb in a hop-heads world! This mahogany-colored beer has notes of caramel, raisin, light smoke, molasses and chocolate- which showcase the range of malt flavors. Rich, roasty, and rounded, this Scottish Ale is a perfect sipping beer after a day on the misty Highland Moors or the foothills of the Sierras.

Keg at The Blind Tiger, NYC. Itís a big, malty beer, so if you canít appreciate that type of character this beer probably wonít get your juices flowing. Thereís lots of rich toffee in here, toasted sugars, a bit of offsetting dirt bitterness, some berry fruits. medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Very mellow alcohol presence to finish, some ripe fruits, caramel, dark sugars. Very good stuff.

Draft at blind tiger. Pours a deep, deep amber body with thin brown lacing. Aroma is faint malt and maybe a touch of muted fruits. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with light carbonation and notes of plain (not bad) malts, light fruit, syrup and earthy wood. Ehh. A little bland overall, but his the alcohol considerably well.

750ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, deep copper, with a firm beige head. Malty aroma, toffee, caramel, licorice, dried figs, apricot, prunes, faintly hoppy. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, medium bitterness, creamy CO2. Malty, slightly sugary taste, toffee, fudge, caramel, apricot, licorice, yeast, candied sugar. Smooth, quite creamy texture, an enjoyable rendition of the style. (2012-06-27)

Tap at CK thanks to argo0. Clear red pour with spotty lace. Chocolate nose- richer and savory. Taste is richer chocolate, small espresso, thick and rich palate given the lighter SRM. Mild alcohol warming. Muted toffee and sugar thankfully given the style.

750ml cork and cage, one time brewery only release. pours a dark reddish brown color with a decent sized khaki colored head with good retention. aroma is fairly light, mostly malty obviosuly. the taste and especially the way it unfolds in the mouth is very nive. complex, it goes through several stages on your palate. creamy, roasty, sweet, smokey, a bit of everythign going on here. really enjoyable selection, i think would make a nice addition as a scottish ale to their line up.
