Pours a reddish brown with no head. Aroma of bourbon, oak and hops. Taste follows. Very smooth for what it is.

Bottle. Dark, stained-oak and thick enough to block any light at all. Thin but persistent head. Rich, lacquer-laden aroma or furniture-cleaner and alcohol. Drinks with a nice woody base and a whiskey-like warmth to wrap it all up. A beauty for a cold, blustery night. (#4952, 3/6/2013)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours thick. Held up to light, the color is a dark amber. Without backlight, the color is dark brown. Sniffing, I get a mild coconut scent, hint of vanilla, and a medium scent of whiskey. First sip is pleasant. I held the sip in my mouth to let the flavors hold. I tasted vanilla, and dark fruit accents such as black cherry or blackberry which weren’t overwhelming. Most of all and more enjoyable, the lingering taste is whiskey, woody, and slight bitterness. The sip left a mild film in the mouth which is fine as the flavor lingered. This lingering taste was bourbon and raison. This Bigfoot stands out from the yearly release. Barrel-Aged is more flavorful and enjoyable. The only draw back, I should’ve bought two bottles instead of one. Once this beer is off the shelves, that’s it. You’ll never find another unless you buy from a collector who is willing to sell.

Caramel colored pour, decent sized white head. Lacing is prominent. This beer is a mess IMO. Overly resiny, barrel notes almost taste like the damn thing was aged in pine trees. The booze doesn’t help and the damn thing got worse as it warmed. Maybe a few YEARS in the cellar will help? Im not hopeful though.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fairly small head despite the apparent carbonation when opening. Nose is subdued and really malty to me. Flavors of toasted coconut. A bit boozy on the back end. But, perhaps that will diminish with some aging. So different compared to the normal BFBW I drink.

Bottle shared by portableparty! Clear brown pour, little carbonation and bourbony sweet aroma. Flavor is hoppy, caramelly booze, oaky and a little sweet. Nicely done. A perfect example of an already great base beer made a little better by some barrel aging.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours amber with a light tan head. Aroma is oak, heavy booze/bourbon, aged hops. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, bourbon, an almost cloying oak, with buttering hops present in the finish. Medium thick body, heat down the throat. Surprising how much the hops have been subdued. Curious to see how this will be in 1-2 yrs. Too hot and booze heavy currently.

Bottle on the bus, first pour! .. . Pours a deep caramel gold .. . mild foam, spots of lacing . .. woah, very boozy stuff . .. not getting any barrel, just hot caramel and burn .. . what the hell is this?? this isn’t bigfoot .. amazingly disappointed but probably would have gotten a much better score if this didn’t have "sierra nevada bigfoot" on the label .. . . i know, but they were great for throwing. fluttered all over.

Big thanks to Harold for sharing this beer! Initially, I got a lot of citrusy hop notes with some pine and cedar in the nose. Oak, vanilla, and caramel were present, too. Hoppy! Poured a nice brown with a faint white head. Taste was white oak, some vanilla, hops, caramel, and a bit boozy. Not bad. I’d like to sit on a bottle for a year and then retry this one.
