3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice malt aroma on the nose that is quickly over taken by the whiskey barrel aroma. On the taste the whiskey flavor from the barrels that it was ages in. High bitterness from the high alcohol. One of the best barrel aged barleywines I have had!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Almost missed rating this, as I mistakenly thought I had previously tried a barrel treatment of Bigfoot. I hadn’t. Poured a medium brown out of the bottle, nice creamy head that faded away. Aroma was caramel malts, some woodsy notes, faint fruit, slight pine. Flavor matched. Honestly, preferred the original. Felt like the oak just diminished the hops, and didn’t add enough other interesting notes. But still a nice barleywine.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (11.9% ABV according to the bottle). Brownish-orange pour with a short off-white head. Wonderful aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and citrus. Bold flavors that mirror the aroma; alcohol is strong upfront with bourbon and oak nearly overwhelming the other flavors of vanilla and coconut but eventually tangerine and brown sugar manage to cut through and tame the alcohol. Finish is bitter with equal credit given to the hop count and assertive malt backbone. A stunning barley wine.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 mL bottle. Pours a crimson amber with a very off-white head. Strong but smooth bourbon brown sugar aroma with some caramel and hops. Bourbon, brown sugar, caramel flavors, oak, some bitterness with occasionally citrusy hops. Quite good.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Yuck, I have become a big fan of barley wine over time but I gotta say if this was my first barley wine I would have never had another.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught at the Sierra Nevada, Chico, CA.
Cloudy deep amber colour with a small head.
Sweet and dark fruitiness and sweet syrupy notes in the aroma.
Strong dessert wine flavour with alcohol warmth and sweet fruity hops. Super tasty. A truly great dessert beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep amber/brown with a nice just off white head. Very nice aromas although alcohol does over power: caramel, bread, hay, cereal, nuts, toast, resin, floral, citrus, herbs, dough, cheese, some leather, banana, clove, cooked vegetables, and vanilla. Actually there is enough going on here that I upgraded the aroma to an eight. Potent but fairly balanced flavors: There is a brief pause before a flash of malty sweetness and then a rush of sour. This gives way to bitter, some salt, and eventually umami. Full bodied, creamy and sticky, with average carbonation. The finish is quite a thing: long, lingering, burning bitter and alcohol. A 4.2 doesn’t quite do this beer justice. Isolating the elements yields this score but... experienced at once it’s quite a brew to behold.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wood, vanilla, a slight bit of alcohol, fades into pine resin hops. This is quite good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery, this pours deep walnut into the glass with a khaki head that reduces to ring lacing. A woody nose is accompanied by alcohol and Christmas spices. The palate on this is full–bodied with a thick and oily mouthfeel. A sipper for sure. Wood and grain alcohol come through the forefront of flavors, introducing a caramel sweetness and burnt toffee mid-palate, finishing with pie spices alongside another burning kiss of alcohol. This slow-drinking, huge relative of Bigfoot himself unabashedly shows its unrelenting strength.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a rich amber color with a finger of fine khaki fizz. Nose has nice toasted grain, burnt sugar, warm bourbon and some date fruit. Palate follows but has a bit more acrid walnut and dark fruit mingling with the softer caramel and bourbon undertones. Hint of grassy bitterness lingers with some boozy dark fruit in the finish. Nice but not really blown away by this.
