3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, tiny bubbled ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear, dark amber (SRM 15) body......nose is Bourbon, dried fruits, vanilla, brown sugar....taste is Bourbon, sweet dried fruits, including plum, raisin, fig, light vanilla, fresh pineapple, light terpene bite, brown sugar sweetness throughout, finishing with a moderate wood hop bitter bite......mouth feel medium, sticky, alcohol heat present, carbonation adds a light tingle. This is an absolutely enormous beer, which needs more time to mellow to achieve its best character. It is very reminiscent of a mince pie which has had whiskey or brandy added. Rating is as an "American Barley Wine". BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 8, 2013 750 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a gorgeous translucent reddish brown color with a small beige head that soon dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is big and bold with whiskey, vanilla and dark fruits. The taste, like the nose, is dominated by the whiskey, big whiskey flavors and they make it hard to pick out anything else. The palate is full and silky smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering bourbon. Overall: This is a fine beast.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. A beast is an apt description: big, hairy, and mean. Clear dark red amber with a thin fluffy short lived off white head. Aroma of pine, caramel, nugget, bourbon, vanilla and musty oak with some cereal grain notes and alcohol present. Thick chewy resiny palate. Tastes of raisins, dates, bourbon, cereal grain, light citrus fruits, caramel, subtle toasted coconut from the wood on the back end and a surprisingly bitter and dry finish with some earthy oaky vanilla character. Interesting, complex, and especially good at the price point.

Bottle enjoyed during the Super Bowl... Poured dark, copper orange with a thin head. Nose had loads of caramel, barrel, and whiskey notes. This tasted great. Pretty balanced, but a hint of boozy heat. This could smooth out with some age. Lots of wood with still the classic Bigfoot taste that makes it distinguishable. Some earthy, piney hop tones, even with two years in barrels. Killer beer.

750 ml bottle to oversized snifter. Looks good; a fairly transparent reddish-brown with off-white lacing. Smells solid; sweet malt, oak, and whiskey with dark fruit notes. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A good beer that will probably significantly improve with age.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 c&c from the Arden BevMo in Sacramento, CA. 2013 Expedition. Pours a very dark, ruddy copper with a decent creamy/fizzy beige head. Aroma that seems to have alcohol along with brown sugar. Full bodied. There is a non-burning alcohol flavor - could be residual whiskey flavor messing with me. Burnt coconut and dark fruit seem to be appropriate. Itís not dry, but itís not sticky. The vanilla/wood aspects are firm. Brown sugar is solid. The wood provides a certain astringency. Iím really curious about the barrel. SN isnít particular about barrels - most are bourbon, but they do use Tennesse Whiskey and rye barrels. For me this isnít heavy bourbon. Or even light. It is good. It is bitter. Nice break from BA impy stouts!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours with an essential clear hued bronze body with a moderate sized off white head that lasts. Aroma still has a lot of hops, pungent pine, grapefruit, pungent alcohol, brown sugar, tannin, burnt caramel and oak. Flavors are very woody, earthy, burnt caramel, vanilla, molasses. Big tannin structure, pretty sweet. Bitter, medium oak, tannin upon hops. Not amazingly drinkable. Fuller bodied, lively carbonation and a boat load of tannin.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
call me crazy, but I didnít love it. especially for the steep price tag. Definitely bigfoot, with lots of added vanilla, oak, and booze. very big body, really big mouthfeel with not a lot of carbonation. nice complexity. really big, but over all just had too much sugary sweetness and vanilla + the big body, something about it didnít agree with me
