UPDATED: APR 4, 2013 Burnt gold. Minimal head.
Incredibly sweet like candy. Some vanilla and cinnamon are apparent
Sweet with pears and heavy malts. Finish is a bitter Oaked vanilla with a medicine cough syrup astringency. Very strong in a white chocolate sort of way. Yet lower abv

2013 Bottle pour after doing a vertical of a few years of normal Bigfoot. Barrel Aging this stuff if the way to go. Strong boozy taste and smell. Just what I’m looking for in a BA barley wine

Pours deep garnet with a creamy head that settles to a ring. Aroma is caramel, roasty malt, toasted coconut, and dark fruit. Taste is cream, fig, caramel, raisin, and coconut. Medium mouth feel, low carbonation, and a boozy dry finish.

Bottle shared, poured a caramel color with aromas of caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, booze, and some light dark fruit. Flavors follow suit with a litle booze on the back end. Thanks to the person who shared this a nice beer that I am glad I got to try.

750mL bottle. Pours a thick and cloudy, deep copper brown with an off-white, heavy-duty (industrial-grade) head, outstanding retention. Mad lacing. Nose is bourbon-barrel, caramelly malt, dried fruit, some vanilla. Mouth is boozy and sticky, semisweet up front, then dries out and hits a long, almost tanniny hoppy bitterness. This is markedly better than the standard Big Foot (which I really didn’t care for), but it still has a finish that tastes like old pennies, which I could do without. I will admit though, that last part aside, this is a decent barley wine.

2013 release. Even deeper caramel mahogany than normal Bigfoot. Fast dissipating head. Huge oak vanilla character on the nose. Nice malt up front, but then the whiskey and oak characters take over. Wood tannins, vanilla, slight oxidation. And almost a spice character. I’m loving how the beer has interacted with the spirit and barrel characters. Delightful.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Copper pour with a short, foamy tan head. Aroma is bitter with soft vanilla, toasted coconut, floral hops, soft wood notes, booze, caramel and soft citrus. Taste relaxes on the hop bitterness and thrusts more toasted coconut, vanilla, and wood to the forefront along with citrus, dark fruit, pine resins, caramel, brown sugar, chewy malt and booze. Body is medium-full and chewy with dense carbonation and medium to full alcohol warmth. Ends with a bit more of the hop bitterness, softer coconut, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit notes, sticky malt, brown sugar, wood and citrus notes. Nice!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 deekyn (579) - Yosemite, California, USA - MAR 10, 2013
A - pours caramely red with 1 finger reddish brown head. No lacing. S -whiskey comes on strong up front. The alcohol over powers subtle aromas of the barreling. Notes of coconut, vanilla, raisin bread, banana esters, oak. Caramel malts and mild rubbing alcohol take over the end. M - medium bodied. Tacky feel with dry end. Average carb. Unrounded (choppy feel). Long malty and bitter end. T - tastes come as barley wine then barrel notes then malty overpowering then long soapy bitter end. Unsmooth transitions. Dark fruits, grains, raisins first. Oak, vanilla, warm whiskey, vanilla, toffee, coconut comes next. Honey, brown sugar and caramel malts make this brew too sweet on the palate. Long bitter grassy end with malty under tones. The end has a strange astringent/antiseptic burn.

Sample pour from Ron at World of Beer Tampa Palms.. Nose is smooth caramel and booze up front. Bourbon is coming through nicely. Flavor is super solid with plenty of rich malts and caramel and a healthy dose of bourbon to keep it going. This thing lingers for a minute or two, and it’s worth every sip. I’m a fan, and quite happy.
