COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

On tap at 10 East. An excellent showing of a barrel aged barleywine and I think it succeeds so well because the base beer is outstanding. So instead of aging it it barrel to make an average beer better, it makes a great beer better. Lots of wet dirt/tree bark, bourbon, spice, dark fruits and vanilla. Flavor echoes the aroma very, very closely. Bourbon, vanilla, toffee, oaked, toffe and alcohol. Very well done.

Pours a reddish brown with no head. Aroma of bourbon, oak and hops. Taste follows. Very smooth for what it is. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2013 750 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a gorgeous translucent reddish brown color with a small beige head that soon dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is big and bold with whiskey, vanilla and dark fruits. The taste, like the nose, is dominated by the whiskey, big whiskey flavors and they make it hard to pick out anything else. The palate is full and silky smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering bourbon. Overall: This is a fine beast.

Finally got around to drinking one of these 750ml bottles and figured this was a good time to rate it. Dirty mahogany with a beige head that completely fades. Balanced oak, booze, resin with some lemon rind hops (although musty), caramelized onions with some burnt butter, toffee and caramel. Mild carbonation, full body, smooth, boozy, sweet yet becomes bitter, balanced and enjoyable. Great sipper.

Bottle from Elevated, pours a dark red with a thin white head. Scent is some sweet malt and a big whiskey alcohol aroma. Taste is some sweet caramel and some oaky vanilla with a bit of fruit, decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle through trade huge thanks to AZBennett! Corked and caged 2013 expedition. Pour has a brown color with nice ruby highlights and a thin coating of tan head that fell to a ring on the glass. Aroma has the promised whiskey barrels done so nicely! Vanilla, oak, toasted custard, brown sugar, juicy wood, caramel, and the distinct malts of Bigfoot. I love that the base beer is there full force but the barrels take it to another level. Mouth feel is medium with good coating and enough carbonation but dialed back a bit from the regular. Flavor brings on the aged malted flavors, light sweet bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruit touches, and a bit of hops still lingers. I wish this was widely available it is so enjoyable, it takes a classic favorite to another level while still maintaining what was so good.

Bottle via and shared with oakbluff. Pale amber in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of fruitcake, bourbon, and ginger. Warming in the mouth with elements of cake batter, fig, whisky, and earth. Medium bodied with a fairly boozy finish. A solid barleywine, but I much prefer the non-barrel aged version.
