4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle given to me by some guy in a place I used to live sort a recently long ago. Pours mahogany with a small head that reduces to a oil slick lacing head. Nose of pitted fruits, oak, and a bit o’bourbon. Taste is generally balanced with pitted fruit. Bourbon comes mid way and the finish is lingering. This makes me Japanese happy sunshine face.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
One year old bottle. Deep ruby/amber pour with a bubbly tan head. Aroma of oak, light vanilla, bourbon, toffee and caramel with spice and underlying dark fruits. Smooth body with similar flavors as the aroma with warming alcohol. Big body and low carbonation. Probably got better over time considering fresh ratings.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 11, 2013 750 ml. corked n’ caged bottle- Pours very hazy dark ruby red with a thin white head. Aroma is in your face barrel aged malty barley wine, cherries, strong wood, vanilla, very complex. The taste is very mellow for Bigfoot, strong in wood, vanilla, cherry, but so very smooth. I do get the coconut, which is weird, how does that happen without there actually being coconut in it. Body is surprisingly medium, or should I say slightly lighter than expected, and carbonation is medium as well. I really enjoyed this, even better than regular old Bigfoot, which i am very fond of, the beer that first got me in to craft beer in the first place.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
750ml bottle $15. I was excited to get a bottle because I heard only 20 cases came to CO. I also remember liking this when I had a taste at GABF five or six years ago. Unfortunately this one was a real disappointment for me. Appearance was about identical to regular Bigfoot, ruby red but less head than the regular. The aroma was quite nice, good whiskey and barrel coming out of the bottle and my glass. The flavor was just a mess for me. Huge bitter hops conflicted with whiskey flavors and then heavy brown sugar, just messy. I think my real problem was that the beer just had too much bitterness that in my opinion does not work well with the whiskey barrels. I would not purchase this again but if barrel aged Narwhal comes out, whew!

O dear friend, please foirgive me my transgressions. Your close relative, the elder Yeti is a close friend of mine. We have know eachother years. I rarely like it when somone soaks in a tub, unless it is me in and with a hot one or a proper sour being created properly. So, your having soaked your bones in a barrel did not do it for me. That said, not bad at all. I wished like crazy I liked you more.

Bottle shared during the RBWG bus tour (LaZoom!). Definitely has that toffee with barrel notes profile. Velvety body.with slight pine and orange peel presence. Some butternut squash soup in the finish that really works!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the Blind Tiger, NYC...The first thing that struck me about this beer is how alcoholic and astringent the aroma is. Not too many of the delicious fruits and spices that are found in the original Bigfoot come through inthe flavor. Even for a barley-wine, this one is really sweet/syrupy. Although the sweetness probably helps to balance out the hotness.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Burnt sugar, vanilla, soap and band-aid on the nose. Alcohol prevails. I like the Sierra Nevada barley wine quite a lot, but this version takes on too much of the esters and alcohol of whiskey for me.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle shared with the great OmegaX
Appearance - Deep red body, frothy head
Aroma - Vanilla, whiskey, honey, caramel, citrus
Taste - Caramel malt, hops, bitter citrus, oak, coconut flakes
For a barrel-aged beer, it was pretty hoppy. All of the great boozy qualities remain from the regular Bigfoot, but now with added earthy and oaky undertones. As it warms up, whiskey becomes more apparent with some nice spiciness and warmth after each sip.
