COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

4 or 5 bottles from over the past month but now im finally rating this brew. Purchased at Kelley Liquor in Las Cruces Pours dark amber hue with a small fizzy eggshell head and no lacing at all. Nose has huge woody notes, vanilla, molassas, whiskey and alcohol. Flavors exhibit the big woody whiskey however, this base beer still shines very well. The nose is good, but the flavors are much better. Im very happy to say that the hops still shine in this brew because in most barleywines that are barrel aged, the hops usually drop out. Long resinous finish with lingering whiskey woody notes and slightl alcohol burn. Very nice barrel age on this brew!

Bottle, thanks Bruce. Pours a beautiful dark amber with off white head. Aroma is quite resinous, varnish, caramel, pine, vanilla. Taste of wood, vanilla, resinous, caramel, toffee, biscuit. Oily and sweet with a bitter finish. Nice but a lot of the hops from the standard version are lost.

Pours clear dark caramel color with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, and pine. Big oak and vanilla flavors with a heavy dose of bourbon. Some some sweet caramel and pine also. Medium to full body moderate carbonation.

Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to snifters, displaying a hazed, ambered brown color, with a presentable layer of off white/light tan head foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The aroma introduced typical BW scent, with ripe/dried fruit, caramel sweetness, toffee, lurking alcohol, and barrel induced hints of vanilla & subtle coconut. Full flavored and warming, hop influence was still a strong factor, even after the barrel hiatus.

Received in trade and shared with friends. Pours a medium copper color with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of rich caramel a brown sugary malts with a bit of faded earthy pine and citrus with a very nice oak and vanilla. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a creamy syrupy mouthfeel. Fantastic beer, I enjoyed every bit of it.

750ml bottle. Thanks to my brother in law josh for hooking this up... Pours a deeper reddish amber, smooth and consistent throughout, and topped with a creamy off-white head... Aroma of whiskey with hints of vanilla, dark fruits with an all around sweetness. Caramel toffee throughout. Smooth with a touch of woody spice on the backend... Flavors are more of the same with vanilla, caramel toffee to go alongside the bourbon barrel presence. Surprisingly, there is still a pronounced bitterness on the backend while being sweet through the middle. Just above medium bodied with adequate. Smooth sweet deep malty presence. Enjoyable actually.

GABF 2006. The beer pours to a lightly hazed caramel chestnut colored body with a creamy white head. The aroma is extremely oaky, sweet vanilla, light banana, barley. The flavor is really oaked, dry woodsyness, some tannins, some barley. Over barreled. Very creamy and delicate palate.

Rusty orange body with a bubbly off-white head. Aromas of wood, booze, caramel malt, sweet fruity esters. Super woody. Rain water and wood. Earthy and boozy. Pretty sweet and finishing dry. Pretty good, though not my thing. If you’re a fan of sweet, malty barleywines, you’d likely enjoy this.

Corked bottle. Pours murky dark brown with a decent bubbly head that fades pretty quickly. Aromas are whiskey, caramel, vanilla, and toasted wood. Taste is very boozy. The aging took out almost all of the hops. Kinda syrupy now. Mostly just whisky, caramel, and barrel notes. Alcohol is pretty well hidden in the finish though. Thick and sticky mouthfeel. Kinda disappointed here since I love the regular version. This is still solid but I was expecting more.

On tap at the Blind Tiger. I wrote some notes for this but they are illegible, incoherent, and generally pure nonsense, so I’ll have to trust my memory here. The hops had died down in this and the beer smoothed out, but it was still astringent and boozy. Sweet malts, and that weird hop flavor you get from an aged but formerly really hoppy brew. Notes of chocolate of roast. Pretty nice.
