COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

750ml bottle 2/28/13 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-42° in snifter-Pours a murky brown with a small off white head. Aroma of sugars, malt, whisky, caramel, and toffee. Taste of dried fruit, whisky, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, and some alcohol. This full bodied brew is well balanced and is down right tasty. Great brew.

Draft into a snifter at Brouwer's. Brown color with ruby highlights and a khaki ring. Syrupy sweet and boozy aroma with a hint of wood and vanilla. Mellow flavor of vanilla, tobacco and molasses, with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Well done to make it drinkable and not over-the-top. No hint of the ABV at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Armin’s with friends, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man. Pour is murky amber brown with little to no head. Big caramelly, toffee, raisins, figgy, prunes, grapey, cola, woody, and bourbon aroma. Taste is caramel, bourbon, slightly oxidized, figs, prunes, raisins, and malty aroma. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Pretty tasty BA Barleywine.

Received in trade and shared with friends. Pours a medium copper color with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of rich caramel a brown sugary malts with a bit of faded earthy pine and citrus with a very nice oak and vanilla. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a creamy syrupy mouthfeel. Fantastic beer, I enjoyed every bit of it.

Almost missed rating this, as I mistakenly thought I had previously tried a barrel treatment of Bigfoot. I hadn’t. Poured a medium brown out of the bottle, nice creamy head that faded away. Aroma was caramel malts, some woodsy notes, faint fruit, slight pine. Flavor matched. Honestly, preferred the original. Felt like the oak just diminished the hops, and didn’t add enough other interesting notes. But still a nice barleywine.

25.4 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with beige froth. Nose is caramel, grass and light whiskey. Medium body with a tang. Taste is hoppy with whiskey and caramel. The whiskey and hops cancel each other out leaving a slightly sweet finish. Not normally a favorite but this version is pretty good.

@ Basunen 16-7-13: Mycket komplex med fylliga toner av malt, tjära, socker, whisky, lakrits och torkat frukt. Lång fin eftersmak. Elegant.

Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to snifters, displaying a hazed, ambered brown color, with a presentable layer of off white/light tan head foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The aroma introduced typical BW scent, with ripe/dried fruit, caramel sweetness, toffee, lurking alcohol, and barrel induced hints of vanilla & subtle coconut. Full flavored and warming, hop influence was still a strong factor, even after the barrel hiatus.

5 ounce sample on tap at Rubicon. The aroma has a ton of bourbon present. Light vanilla sweetness. I don’t detect the Bigfoot itself, per se. All barrel in the nose here, but not a bad thing. Scantly hazy amber body with a small, weak, off-white head present. Starts with a sweet, vanilla, oaky flavor from the bourbon. This is followed by a bit of sweetness, which then becomes more Bigfoot-like with the the classic resiny hop bitterness that I love. Finishes very smooth. Ethanol is very well-hidden. Really good stuff.

4 or 5 bottles from over the past month but now im finally rating this brew. Purchased at Kelley Liquor in Las Cruces Pours dark amber hue with a small fizzy eggshell head and no lacing at all. Nose has huge woody notes, vanilla, molassas, whiskey and alcohol. Flavors exhibit the big woody whiskey however, this base beer still shines very well. The nose is good, but the flavors are much better. Im very happy to say that the hops still shine in this brew because in most barleywines that are barrel aged, the hops usually drop out. Long resinous finish with lingering whiskey woody notes and slightl alcohol burn. Very nice barrel age on this brew!
