750ml bottle from West Lakeview Liquors, split with Dwm1034. Pours a clear, dark copper color with an off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is whiskey, caramel, dark fruit, raisin. Medium on the palate with light carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, nutty, boozy, whiskey, a little vanilla, a little oak, molasses, with a sharp, whiskey finish. Very nice.

Has this side by side with regular. Completely different beer. Definitely smell and taste the barrel and some vanilla. Very smooth on the tongue, but still very boozy.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Super boozy with vanilla and caramel and a decent bit of dark fermented fruits. Good, but could probably lay down for a while.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is candy sugar, oak, and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with rich malt and candy sugar with boozey finish. Very impressive.

On draught at Lucky Labrador for the 17th Annual Barleywine and Big Beer Festival. 2012 vintage. Last pour before it ran out. Murky copper amber color. Aroma is caramelized citrus, grass, and sweet malt. Taste is oxidation, tart citrus, caramel, toffee, bourbon, and oak. The barrel aging really smooths it out well.

On tap @ SN Brewery. Pretty darn tasty but not too high on the wood flavor like some of the other barrel offerings I’ve had. Easy drinking, yet pretty noticeable alcohol. Had as part of the sampler platter, then a 10oz glass. Very good.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2007 Tap @ Blind Tiger: I didn’t get to take notes on this, so I’m rating from sheer memory. Deep rusty amber pour topped by a tan film. Great boozey aroma, roasty caramel, bourbon, wood and a floral hop background. This is a perfect Barley Wine for barrel aging because it’s extremely hoppy to begin with. The bourbon mellows the aggressive bitterness, giving it a warming roasted caramel flavor. The cascade resins still come through to give the perfect balance. This is good stuff.

the first time i had this i felt it was extremely sweet. the flavors from the bourbon added a lot of sweet vanilla notes. but the second time i had it was digging it. so i dont know. i thought they were going to bottle this stuff. whatever, it’s not amazing and the reg. one is a lot better, but aging it for 5 years might be really nice.

At the ’08 GABBF. They billed it as the Whiskey Barrel Aged 2007. Orange color with a thin golden colored head. The nose has wood and caramel sweetness and shows the whiskey barrel without being too overpowering. Flavor has big, grassy hops, with caramel and a whiskey sheen over the whole thing. The whiskey becomes a little overbearing in the finish, but still a nice use of a barrel with a barley wine.
