COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Draft at GABBF Scotch Barrel: Poured murky brown with tan head. Aroma is sweet vanilla. Taste was woodsy oak, scotch alcohol, vanilla, and malt. Finish was dry.

Sample at a cool-ass bottle share. Pours a hazy auburn color with a quickly forming khaki head that settles to a ring and leaves some touches of lace. Nose involves lots of hops, pine and mint coming forward, along with plenty of oak. Pretty sweet, and also quite bitter. Bigger body, oily, syrupy, with a drying oaky finish. Pretty cool brew, though not necessarily a huge improvement over the original. This was a fresh bottle from this year, so age I imagine would do wonders. Still, cool to try what was a really hoppy barrel aged beer.

Flavours of wood, some alcohol, some grains, malts, honey, barleys, bitters, grass, herbs, bitters... Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, wood, malts, herbs, some sticky sweets and herbs... Bottle to glass. Pours a mostly clear medium brown burgundy color with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is lots of vanilla, coconut, slight whisky, with a definite bigfoot background. Flavor is sweet, vanilla, heavy malts. Very creamy texture with a lingering vanilla and coconut. Very tasty beer. Way better than the base in my opinion.

Not a whole lot of bba flavor, very disappointing. Not a lot of complexity, really sucks since the bottle was $20.99 (WF Bowery), will not purchase again.

750 mL bottle. Pours a crimson amber with a very off-white head. Strong but smooth bourbon brown sugar aroma with some caramel and hops. Bourbon, brown sugar, caramel flavors, oak, some bitterness with occasionally citrusy hops. Quite good.

GABF 2006. Much smoother than I was expecting. Not a huge hop profile like the regular Bigfoot. Nonetheless, a great beer. Due to it’s mellow flavor, I feel this was probably an older Bigfoot vintage, but I’m not sure how old. Hope they bottle this stuff so I can try some more. Good stuff.

On tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival: Pours a transparent copper orange with a well-lacing frothy white head. Sweet caramel, fresh hops, and bourbon oaky aroma. Starts sweet and viscous revealing lots of oaky complexity and bittering grapefruity hop flavor. A nice tweak on a good beer that hides its alcohol well despite being 12.3%.
