Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

2014. 11.9% . clear red with medium sized, stable, cream colored head. dusty oak, vanilla, butterscotch aroma. flavors of caramel, butter, vanilla, barrel, peachy fruits, butterscotch. complex flavors. great medium finish with medium body. the usual fresh, sharp hops of ’regular bigfoot’ have mostly diminished already when the beer hits the market. it drinks great now and will be better later, though its hard to imagine this beer improving. this should be the hottest cellarable beer of the year! i only wish i saved some of those 30th anniversary beers from a few years ago.

This is quite excellent. Rich and flavorful, of molasses and hops, this is noticeably stronger than the original, but it’s equally tasty. Great beer, though pricey.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (11.9% ABV according to the bottle). Brownish-orange pour with a short off-white head. Wonderful aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and citrus. Bold flavors that mirror the aroma; alcohol is strong upfront with bourbon and oak nearly overwhelming the other flavors of vanilla and coconut but eventually tangerine and brown sugar manage to cut through and tame the alcohol. Finish is bitter with equal credit given to the hop count and assertive malt backbone. A stunning barley wine.

Bottle. Cannot believe I have not had this bad boy before. Love the Big Foot. The barrel aging does wonders. The vanilla notes smooth it out but the aging doesn’t reduce the wonderful hop profile. Pours a orange brown haze with light beige head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, earthiness, bread, vanilla and booze. Sweet citrusy caramel taste with nice hop hit and smooth creamy vanilla on the backend. Excellent beer. Might be my favorite Bwine because of the complexity.

Thanks to tderoeck! 655 ml. bottle sampled @ “Hot & Sweaty RBBSG 2015”. Deep amber, light red hue (that might be also just the lightning),… Thick oily caramel, sweet cooked apples, vanilla & bourbon nose,… Taste is smidge thin with sweet vanilla, caramel, cooked & caramelized apple, sugar, sweet candy,… Creamy, faintly metallic body,… Very yummy, could be even better but already very yummy beer.

Pours a syrupy dark brown with a small ring of head and nice legs up the glass. Aroma of dark dried fruits, raisins, burnt sugar, wood, vanilla and a touxh of alcohol. Taste is sweet syrupy malts following the flavors of burnt sugar, caramelized brown sugar, raisins, dates, dark dried fruits, vanilla... Incredibly complex flavors with the whiskey barrels of vanilla and light notes of oak and whiskey with a smooth alcohol warming on the finish... Great winter warmer.

on tap at the Mills River brewery; deep amber to red color; fantastic aroma - sweet malt with hops and bourbon - mostly bourbon, with hints of oak; intense bourbon flavor; oak and hop notes; the bourbon really overwhelms everything else - not that I have a problem with that

Deep copper pour, attractive long lasting off white silky and thin head. Dominant aroma are of oak, whiskey with hops playing in the background. Interesting flavor, does not remind me much of the regular bigfoot. I do get brown sugar and raisin flavors. Hops seem more subdued than the non barrel aged variant. A well crafted brew on the whole. ABV is well masked. Smoother palate than the regular beer. If this wasn’t pricey, I’d be buying this more often for sure.

My god, bigfoot is good, but the barrel aged is next level. The oak influence brings down some of the cloying sweetness. Gentle roastiness and toffee balance this beast out. Great.

At SWBF 2016. Pours caramel with a low white head. Aromas of caramel, bourbon, oak, butterscotch, figs, dates, raisins, plums. Holy fuck that aroma! Taste is loads of caramel and candied fruit with prominent toasted oak notes. Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit oily with moderate carbonation. Just wow.
