COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Brown in color with an off-white head. A bourbony barleywine (of course) in the start and finish in both aroma and taste; vanilla, oak, caramel and coconut. Fantastic!

Big sweet toffee, raisins, cognac, and caramel, a really nice well-rounded barleywine. I would drink this any time I can get it.

Bottle shared by Gabe. Deep amber / copper pour with thin veil of white foam. Aroma is good, really roasty, nutty, light oaky vanilla notes, had it side by side with regular Bigfoot and this one appeared (obviously) much less hoppy, rich caramel malt notes, hickory. Taste is sweet, nice bitterness to balance, tons of dried fruits, caramel, grassy finish with nice strong warming alcohol. Palate is full bodied, mouth coating with just enough carbonation. Quite enjoyable, good barley wine.

Deep copper pour, attractive long lasting off white silky and thin head. Dominant aroma are of oak, whiskey with hops playing in the background. Interesting flavor, does not remind me much of the regular bigfoot. I do get brown sugar and raisin flavors. Hops seem more subdued than the non barrel aged variant. A well crafted brew on the whole. ABV is well masked. Smoother palate than the regular beer. If this wasn’t pricey, I’d be buying this more often for sure.

4 or 5 bottles from over the past month but now im finally rating this brew. Purchased at Kelley Liquor in Las Cruces Pours dark amber hue with a small fizzy eggshell head and no lacing at all. Nose has huge woody notes, vanilla, molassas, whiskey and alcohol. Flavors exhibit the big woody whiskey however, this base beer still shines very well. The nose is good, but the flavors are much better. Im very happy to say that the hops still shine in this brew because in most barleywines that are barrel aged, the hops usually drop out. Long resinous finish with lingering whiskey woody notes and slightl alcohol burn. Very nice barrel age on this brew!

Red/copper pour, off white head. Palate had a sticky mouth feel that i did not feel belonged. Flavor was overwhelming. A lot going on and in the end it just doesn’t come together for me.

2015 vintage corked bomber into snifter glass, clear orangy-amber color with tan head. Aroma notes of woody oak, bourbon, heavy caramel malt sweetness, toast, citrus-leaning fruitiness, vanilla and slightly herbal. Taste adds strong pine/resin bitter hops, dark dried fruits (plums, raisins), coconut, some nuttiness, oak char and lightly boozey. Heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, oily, rich, dry with woody resin-bitter finish. It’s a big woody heavy barleywine, much more barleywine-like than regular Bigfoot. I can see this being awesome with a few years on it to mellow it out more.

Pours clear dark caramel color with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, and pine. Big oak and vanilla flavors with a heavy dose of bourbon. Some some sweet caramel and pine also. Medium to full body moderate carbonation.

Nice malt aroma on the nose that is quickly over taken by the whiskey barrel aroma. On the taste the whiskey flavor from the barrels that it was ages in. High bitterness from the high alcohol. One of the best barrel aged barleywines I have had!

Almost missed rating this, as I mistakenly thought I had previously tried a barrel treatment of Bigfoot. I hadn’t. Poured a medium brown out of the bottle, nice creamy head that faded away. Aroma was caramel malts, some woodsy notes, faint fruit, slight pine. Flavor matched. Honestly, preferred the original. Felt like the oak just diminished the hops, and didn’t add enough other interesting notes. But still a nice barleywine.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (11.9% ABV according to the bottle). Brownish-orange pour with a short off-white head. Wonderful aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and citrus. Bold flavors that mirror the aroma; alcohol is strong upfront with bourbon and oak nearly overwhelming the other flavors of vanilla and coconut but eventually tangerine and brown sugar manage to cut through and tame the alcohol. Finish is bitter with equal credit given to the hop count and assertive malt backbone. A stunning barley wine.
