4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
One of the better BA beers at EBF. The base beer is tamed by the sweet and complex port barrels offering dark fruits throughout. It pushes a wonderful barrel complexity to the base beer and even the whiskey BA version., coffee,

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle (the first release I think?) in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon and oak with a little booziness, some dark chocolate, hints of dark fruits, and some light dough and light bitterness. Flavor the same. Smooth texture. Really surprised by this actually.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very dark brown with a brown head.sticky malts, bourbon fairly prominent. Toffeeish brown sugars. Rich dark chocolate with lots of vanillins to add to the rich sugary sweetness. Might be veering towards cloying for me. Ok for the type but the vanillin comes on too strong for me, with nothing to balance it.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2015 vintage, bottle at home. Pours velvet black with a low tan head. Swirling the liquid around leaves oily lacing on the glass. Aromas of dark roasted chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts, muscovado sugar, oak, bourbon, slight leather, caramel. Taste is fantastic with caramel sweetness upfront that gives way to roasted barrel notes and a slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is luxuriously soft and velvety with just enough creamy body to be welcome. Just amazing. Tested against the same base, the 2014 regular Narwhal.

Pours pitch black liquid with a mocca head. Aroma is dark chocolate, some coffee, vanilla, oak and bourbon. Taste reflects the aroma. Very smooth, well balanced and with an alcohol finish. Would buy again if it woundn’t be for the price. One of the best imperial stouts I had.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2016 12 oz bottle. Pours a thick, oily black with a pencil thin chestnut colored head. Aromas of dark chocolate, dried figs, alcohol, and some floral notes. Chocolate, walnuts, black cherry, coffee, bourbon. A little booziness that fits right in. Thick and sticky, velvety.

Humongous from go to whoa - choc vanilla coconut roasted malt - super syrupy - very very rich - too much so - hard to finish my glass - thankfully shared the bottle! Definitely sensory overload - enjoyed but more is not necessarily better.
