Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Pours cloudy dark amber almost like it's unfiltered. Hints of banana on the nose. Full bodied flavor with the woody-ness of the oak barrels. Only downside is the aftertaste that is the same as all Sierra Nevada brews...grapefruit. Still...loved it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2015 vintage. 750mL corked & caged bottle from Beer Cartel Deep copper body, holds a dense beige head throughout. 4 Nose is intense - toasty, charred, coconuty oak notes, rich treacle, biscuity malts, rum, resiny cedary/pine, cooked citrusy hops. 8 Full body, not as rich as expected, long on the palate, low carbonation. 4 Intensity ramps up on the palate - very woody; charred oak, dark rum, dank piney American hops, treacle, vanilla, toasted coconut, dried fruits. Stacked with bitterness, plenty of length, warming without being spirity. 8 Big brash Barley Wine - very American, very good. 16 4.0

Catching up on older ratings from notes. 750 ml bottle shared on May 5, 2015 by my buddy Shem. Pours a lovely garnet-brown color with a thin layer of tan foam. AROMA of thick toffee and caramel, light bourbon notes, coconut, and vanilla. FLAVOR has significant bourbon notes (vanilla, coconut), brown sugar, sticky dried dates, and still a little bit of hop twang actually. Somewhat sweet but still not quite cloying. Surprisingly smooth finish. (384, 999)

My god, bigfoot is good, but the barrel aged is next level. The oak influence brings down some of the cloying sweetness. Gentle roastiness and toffee balance this beast out. Great.

Pours out a decent darker amber color with a small white head. Aroma is of burnt sugar, caramel, oak, mild dried fruit, some vanilla, light alcohol. Taste is solid, oak, burnt sugary caramel, light earthy wood, a mild punch of bitterness. Alcohol is there but not over the top

Bottle. Clear dark amber pour. Aroma of vanilla, licorice, caramel, bourbon, alcohol, some spices and leather Flavor is quite alcoholic, spicy, sweet, bourbon. Nice balance, a bit alcoholic.

Bottle; Well - Here goes. Pour is a mahogany wonderland - with a nice, fine bubbled khaki head into this glass - it does retain well , with light spotting presence as well. The nose is feint alcohol, toffee, spices, moving to caramel and brown sugars, I suppose. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed as stated, at least to a point. There is a bittering note initial , moving to barrel presence - theres a bit of vanilla here - it moves on to heavy malted notes (caramel, brown sugars, with a touch of toffee), - there is a touch of dark fruit, with some booze, and a bit of whisky reveals itself near the finish line. It’s as expected. a nice attempt - but realistically , the base beer, while a classic - just doesn’t bring that much to the table nowadays.

750ml bottle if 2015 release. Pours a reddy brown color with a bit of head. Strong whiskey flavor that overpowers a little even after some time to breathe.

Ruby red pour with a single finger head. Hard to see through. Aroma of flowers. Really dry. Taste is full of toffee, caramel and some dankness in the finish. Lots of lace. A little oak, but mostly caramel & toffee.
