COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

750ml bottle, shared by Jessica. Mostly clear red orange color. Thin off-white head. Few dots of lace. Woody, barrely nose. Some dark fruit. Little vanilla. Awesome toasty malt, light spice, good vanilla. Some alcohol heat, sort of a light burn. Moderate bitter taste, less sweet. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation, kind of drying texture, with the alcohol warmth in the finish. Alright BA barleywine, for me. A lot more barrel influence than I hoped for, a lot of wood, I’d have preferred more balanced. Alcohol is noticeable. Some taste of oxidation? Very interesting, big beer to sip on, though, enjoyable for the most part. A good long toasty aftertaste.

Bottle shared by Kenny at Bruce’s new place. It pours deep amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is wood, earth, toffee, honeycomb, vanilla, coconut and marshmallow. The taste is smooth, woody, earth, toast, bourbon, alcohol warmth, dried fruit, some astringency, vanilla and coconut with a dry, warming finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Perhaps a touch hot, but rather nice

Bottle cheers to Ken. Clear, golden amber with a small, firm and very sticky beige head. Nose is balanced booze and spice - white pepper, some vanilla, white chocolate and coconut. More dried fruits coming out in the taste - fig, dates, currants. Some oaky vanilla, woody undertones and more white chocolate. Quite sweet like sticky toffee and resinous hops. Astringent bitterness towards the back end. A touch hot. Solid stuff, should age gracefully

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - thanks to Ken. Pours clear amber with a frothy, tan head. The nose has leaves, dry caramel, dry bread, some wood. Medium sweet flavor with boozy punchy, leaves and earth, dry wood, dry caramel, bitter toasted grass. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, lots of earthy bitterness, dry caramel, dry wood, some leathery berries. Not bad.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Super boozy with vanilla and caramel and a decent bit of dark fermented fruits. Good, but could probably lay down for a while.

750ml bottle $15. I was excited to get a bottle because I heard only 20 cases came to CO. I also remember liking this when I had a taste at GABF five or six years ago. Unfortunately this one was a real disappointment for me. Appearance was about identical to regular Bigfoot, ruby red but less head than the regular. The aroma was quite nice, good whiskey and barrel coming out of the bottle and my glass. The flavor was just a mess for me. Huge bitter hops conflicted with whiskey flavors and then heavy brown sugar, just messy. I think my real problem was that the beer just had too much bitterness that in my opinion does not work well with the whiskey barrels. I would not purchase this again but if barrel aged Narwhal comes out, whew! Serving type: bottle 03-23-2013 16:25:20

Taste is caramel, bourbon, slightly oxidized, figs, prunes, raisins, and malty aroma. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Pretty tasty BA Barleywine.
