COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewery says its new beer, which features five varieties of different hops, imparts hints of grapefruit, with a floral note that recalls orange blossom. At 8.5% alcohol-by-volume, a light malt body and dry finish complement West Coast Double IPA’s bold hop profile. “This is an IPA that’s West Coast in style, which is fitting since the whole pilgrimage kicks of here in California in just a few weeks, said Ken Grossman, founder.”

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 24 oz bottle. Slightly murky dark gold pour, frothy snow white head with a sticky white head. Aroma has a slight perfumey bent to it, a nice dollop of hoppy spruce notes. Solid IPA flavor with some juicy fruit hum notes, some solid citrus bitter notes, some pepper-like vegetable notes, just a hint of mint. Nice thick mouthfeel.

24 oz bottle. Pours light golden with small amount of off white foam. Strong pine and citrus aroma. Very pronounced hop bitterness on the center and back of the tongue that match the aroma. Clean finish that doesn't linger quite long enough. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a light copper with a good head. Malty-resinous nose. Rich bitterness, but with some coarseness from high-alpha hops. A bit sweet for an IPA. Satisfying brew, but not an all-time great

Spab (2413) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 24, 2014
24 oz bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours a nearly clear golden colour with modest-sized white head. Aroma is catty, with some citrus and floral notes, as well as some caramel and grain character. Flavour also has lots of catty and dank character with some grapefuit, flowers and grass as well as a solid caramel and crackery grain backbone. Medium plus body. Carbonation on the ligher side. Nice beer.

Smells very bitter , by that I mean you get this hit of cat-piss and pine. Great name for a band. The taste follows the nose. A very bitter beer and I mean that in the best way possible. grassy piney cat-piss and a bit of alcohol. not bad. Not getting the floral hops but this thing has the right moves towards the bitter and badder hoop. Doesn’t hide the 8.5 at all. I’d suspect it was upwards of 10. Kinda of his a malt liquorish after taste not that thats a bad thing. pretty solid double. If you like bitter and a nice easy price? this is a no-brainer. Well definity re-visit.

I didn’t know what to expect with this beer since it seemed like a "Welcome to Beer Camp" beer and not part of the Beer Camp 12 pack. Wow, what an excellent DIPA this is! The first hit of aroma is that classic scent of a strong, bitter Sierra Nevada beer (Hoptimum, Celebration). Grassy, and slightly floral at the same time with a big wiff of caramel malt. Those follow right into the taste with a definite nod to Hoptimum but with a really catty, tongue piercing bitterness that seems to go even beyond that. It feels like it’s really high ABV (I would have guessed 10%), but I think it’s the hops giving it the extra bite. The sweet, bready caramel malt kicks in to mellow this somewhat and add balance, but the bitterness keeps boring through your tongue. There’s a bit of vanilla and pineapple in there too. Finishes with a delicious, long-lasting bitterness and sweetness that lasts for a long time. Damn I wish I’d bought a few more of these. This is my 700th rating and it’s fitting that it’s Sierra and something special like Beer Camp which was awesome! Cheers to Ken Grossman and Sierra Nevada for all they’ve done and continue to do for craft beer!

Appearance: very hazy golden color, pours with a big beige head, nice density on the head when it settles Aroma : strong citrus, lemon, alcohol, Taste: orange, some sweetness initially, alcohol, moderate bitterness on the finish Palate: soft carbonation, bitter aftertaste, medium mouthfeel, Overall: very strong orange aromas and flavors in this one, a bit too high abv that can be tasted from time to time, good beer but probably wouldn’t buy again
