COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beer Camp #26 April 2010 ABV 5.6 IBU 29

This unusual beer is based on a traditional German-style Märzen lager, but with an added twist—the addition of Maisie Jane’s locally grown almonds during fermentation. It is a polished copper color with delicate and sweet lager aromas. The flavor is an interesting mix of moderately sweet toasted malt with hints of marzipan and roasted almonds coming through in the finish.

tap @ RnH - I probably would’nt have gotten almond from this if I hadn’t been primed by the name. In any case: clear, nut brown pour, grassy toffee-marzipan candy and light grassy notes. Maybe a hint of almond nuttiness in the arouma. Grainy bread and smooth bodied.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. Amber/ruby and clear with some white head that laces nicely. Aroma is malty with a mild but distinct almond note (more like almond butter if you’ve ever tried it). Light bodied, malty body, light bitterness on the finish.

Tap at RnH. Dull, inoffensive aroma. Saying I smell almond in this is a bit of a stretch. I smell cheap cookies, thats about it. Flavor is similarly dull... though there are a lack of flaws, it is pretty much as generic "ale" as you can get. Little to say about this one.

Draft @ Bittercreek, Boise: Pours a dark amber color with a light white head. The nose is toasty with some nutty qualities and a deep malty body and lightly hopped nose. The flavor is clean and creamy with a smooth malty mouthfeel, average body and the toastiness on the malts is a little more accentuated than most malty fall lagers. Good job local dudes.

On tap at Papago on 8/6/10. Pours dark gold with a thin tan head. The nose is almond extract and malt. The taste is roasted nuts, sweet malt and toasted grains. Medium bodied. OK brew.

Draft at DTJBs. Bright orange with thick white head. Nose is subtle with tones of nuttiness and grains. Flavor is malty sweet with tinges of melanoidins and pecan/almonds, finishes slightly sweet. Medium body and smooth texture, medium carbonation. A nice malty, nutty brown ale with good depth and complexity.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Sweet malt aroma. Sweet malt and light mineral flavor. Medium bodied. Sweet malt and light earthiness lingers.

On tap at Blue Palms. Pours with a clear orange body and a small, slightly off-white head that stays. Aroma of corn, grain, caramel and lightly nutty. Toast, grass and slightly rich. If I hadn’t seen the name, I wouldn’t guess almond, but it smells like it a bit. Taste is smooth, nutty, toast, caramel and pistachio. Lively bubbles.
