4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beer Camp Variety Pack 2013-(12oz bottle poured to a tulip) Black and Beautiful like 60’s soul baby. James Brown/ Aretha Franklin good. Starting with the pour and the aroma you know you’re in for a treat. A Brazil nut color with a chocolate milk like head. Nice lacing, sticky with soft small bubbles. So. much going on in the aroma here. Espresso. chocolate, fruity hops. toffee and even bubblegum with the alcohol presence to give it pop. The mouth feel is soft and silky but delivers on the promise of the nose. Really nice bitterness with the chocolate. and stone fruits and that first cup of morning coffee satisfaction. The "Belgian" yeast factor is there not as a star player but as nice underlying support. Clean and resinous at the same time in the finish. This year’s Beer Camp Variety Pack is a hoppy success and #94 is the star. So well done. you owe it to yourself to try this!!! Awww HIT ME!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Now this is a black IPA. It could easily pass for a stout in appearance, and it produces a truly beautiful fluffy, light brown head and there’s just enough stickiness to form some really thick, sexy lacing in places. The nose offers some roasted malts up front, which quickly balances out with some sweet, caramel/toffee sweetness. Something else, an alcoholic, fermented fruitiness deep in the aroma reminds me of a Tempranillo.
The flavor is phenomenal for a black IPA. This is easily my favorite of the style, even if it leans Belgian. I often feel like I’m in search of the perfect black IPA, and sometimes, even often, remark at how a black IPA is really good - but this one has to top the bill.
Some cocoa-like roasted malts form the base of the malt flavor, with a very distinctive herbal, citrusy lemon hop presence blending extremely well with the malts mid-palate. Sorachi Ace hops seem to really be amped up in this beer, but the complimenting heft and flavor of the malts really make this beer work. It’s truly impressive. Finally a dry, toasted/heavily roasted malt flavor, sans burnt bitterness, finishes out the flavor.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home from drinkstore
Dark brown black with pillowy "anzac" brown head. rich almost lactose like yeast esters and a touch of goosweberry, perhaps slightly manure, full bodied, gentle carbonation. yeast and hops working well together, slighty toasty dry pithy finish. Creamy, complex yet immensely drinkable for its strength. This needs to be a full time beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Poured nigh on black with a small tan head. Nose revealed coffee, spice, piney hop and dark malts. Similar components comprised the taste in addition to notes of spice, booze, choc and dark fruits. Plenty transpiring. Hop bitterness lurked with purpose in the shadows.Tasty Black IPA with quality throughout. Beer Camp range is very tidy indeed.
