Beer Camp #92: Brewed by Nolan Rodman of Rodmanís Washington DC. Brewed with an experimental hop varietal.

This bruiser throws its first punch with a big herbal hop aroma that features a hint of fresh pumpkin. The maltís roasted coffee notes and a dry finish round out the fighterís repertoire, making for a very drinkable black IPA.

has the look of a black lager. very tight head when on tap, almost looked like it was NO2, but not quite. feel and finish were quite smooth as well. flavor was a little lighter than expected, especially the hops (in the nose as well) but it was a well balanced beer and the black, chocolate, and other amalts used were quite tasty, and provided a slightly bittersweet dry finish. not the best black ipa iíve had, but pretty good, and different from any other Sierra Nevada beer Iíve had before."

This was a nice Black IPA which had a little bit of chocolate flavor that i thought was interesting. One of the better beer camp series beers and happy it is from DC.

On tap at Aces and Ales. Deep brown and opaque. Head is thick with good lacings. Very unique aroma like licorice and cola. Bitter with toasted malts and plenty of dryness.

Tap at Churchkey. Massive mocha foam erupts on clear, deep ruby. Thick lacing. Nose is red apple, acetaldehyde. Taste is spicy, bitter dark chocolate, bitter soil, very intense bitterness with melted chocolate density. Great palate, dense, spicy, fully bitter, not astringent.
