3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap @ Real. Clear, yellow-orange pour with a persistent, short white head leaving heavy lace. Nose is ripe oranges, citrus and pine. Heavy body with moderate, fine carbonation. Mandarin ornages, spruce, mild dates and raisins, ripe apples and some booziness. Finish continues similar fruits, some light pine and citrus bitterness and a roast vegetable component enters. Clearly related to Bigfoot, but moves a step towards a more English style BW at the same time it takes a step in a completely different direction. My compliments to SN for rolling the dice, nicely done!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
4 oz. poured into a snifter at Churchkey. From notes.
A: Pours a dark copper color with great clarity. The head is a one finger slightly off white color with a thin, creamy-textured collar retaining to the side of the glass. Acceptable lacing given the serving circumstances.
S: Similar to a lot of barleywines Iíve smelled - but somehow itís not. Caramel and darker fruits abound, with an augmenting aroma of peppercorn, mint, smoke, pineapple, and slight oak. Me likey.
T: Quite mellow, but in a good way. The initial caramel sweetness gives way to a smoky, faintly leathery midtaste and a finishing mild pineapple character from the hops, along with some alcohol. Not the most complex barleywine, but solid.
M: Slightly thin for a barleywine, but it doesnít quite help bringing its drinkability level above íslow sipperí. As in the flavor, alcohol is present, but well integrated in conjunction with its lower carbonation.
O: An interesting beer to try, without a doubt. Iíd say itís about on par with SNís Bigfoot, meaning itís very good, but not great. Well worth a try, at least.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at CK thanks to argo0. Low haze nectarine pour (??). Light SRM for style. Nose is dank hops, tropical, grilled papaya and pineapple. Taste is rich, peppery, spicy cedar. Thicker sugary palate with bright stone fruits. Really like this one. One of the first barleywines that is quite drinkable. But comes across more of a DIPA.

On tap at Dadís Kitchen, Sacramento. Pours cloudy golden with a nice off-white head and a sweet floral aroma. There is a sweet caramel malt flavor with a honey feel that leaves a tingling sensation on the palate. Pleasant to drink.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
10 ounce snifter at DeVereís in Sacramento. The initial aroma is quite faint, but I think this is because it is too cold. After it warms a bit, there are some citrus orange hints, and some fruity yeast ester character. A strange aroma, which doesnít make much sense. Transparent copper-colored/orange body with a small, off-yellowish head present. Light for a barleywine...reminds me of HOTD Fred. Hopefully, it tastes similar. Starts with citrus, floral, and orangey hop character. Becomes a bit sweet, chewy and borderline cloying with some fruity esters in the middle. Finishes with a strong, bitter, hopped floral and grapefruity hop flavors. This beer is just all over the place...between the sweet cloying character, and super bitter hops and the goofy esters.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at the Livermore Saloon. It pours a blonde color with a big white head. The aroma is very fragrant with herbal and floral hops backed up by some honey and bread. The flavor is sweet with honey, peach, pineapple and a strong bitter finish. Thick, bordering on syrupy body with noticeable alcohol warmth. Kind of a strange blonde barley wine, but tasty. I would have guessed it to be a messy, under attenuated IIPA. I enjoyed it when I started thinking barley wine.
