COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beer Camp #81 created Carolina Dreamin’, a red wheatwine. It is a cousin to the better known barleywine, but brewed with wheat(50%). This big, rich ale has a mild caramel flavor and bready character from the wheat malt with notes of grapefruit and peach from a blend of Galaxy and Nelson Saivin hops, which share the fruity characteristics of a chardonnay. ABV: 9.0% ----- IBU: 41

Draft at Highland. Pours hazy golden red, thin white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, bread, and berry fruits. Taste was a medium sweetness. Medium-full body, but texture was more slick than thick, quite strong finish with the high alcohol and lively carbonation. It was definitely something different and could enjoy in small doses.

Draft @ Beer Revolution, Oakland, CA. Pours a slightly deep reddish amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy caramel aroma with weak hints of dark fruit. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter slightly bready caramel flavor. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter caramel finish.

12 oz. pour at French Broad Brewery. This pours a hazy deep red with a small head. The aroma is fruity with notes of berries, toffee and multi-grain bread. This is a full bodied malty sipper with subtle nuances of fruits and grain. I didn’t find a strong hop presence at all. Nothing jumps out, but it all works together. This isn’t too sticky or sweet as I feared it may be. Wheat wines are not a style I usually really enjoy, but this is one of the better ones.
