The beer we made is essentially a Double Pale Ale, based on the original Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. We then imperialized it and changed the hop bill, with an eye toward reflecting past, present and future symbolically with the hops. For past, we of course used Cascades, for the present we chose Citra and for the future an experimental hop with no name, only a number.

Pour on tap at Black Bottle, slightly hazy orange-yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, bread, biscuit, some slight orange into some earthy, herbal notes with a touch of grain. Taste was a mix of grain, bread, yeasty notes into a bit of spice, earth, herbal hops, slight citrus, finishing slightly bitter.

On tap at Toronado San Francisco. About as average as it gets. Tried it because it was a "special anniversary" beer, but the anniversary was the only thing special about it.

Tap @ Tap and Handle Fort Collins. Pours a somewhat cloudy orange appearance with an off white head. Somewhat bready herbal, mid citrusy aroma. Flavor had some lit caramel notes along with some citrus and a bit of pine with a bit of booze on the finish. Kind of bland and not all that interesting. First disappointment from Sierra Nevada in a while.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours a golden color with a white head. The aroma is sweet citrus fruit and light bready malt. The flavor is sweet piney citrus, with alcohol and a full mouthfeel. Alcohol, pine and bread in the finish.

On tap at capitol beer and taproom. Pours cloudy copper with white head. Taste is slightly hoppy and boozy. Reminds me of a not as good DBA.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours amber with a decent beige head and a something that tastes like red malt that is deliciously bitter and dry. Sticks to the palate.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark gold with a creamy white head. Rather citrus/pine aroma. Med body. Flavor is med roast malt with a heavy dose of mixed hop. Mainly floral/citrus. Finishes a little malty, but very bitter and hoppy. Give a little time it seems to develop a touch of tobacco. Just excellent.

A really big beer that sneaks up on you. Pours a generic IPA orange color. Big hop notes up front. I get some blueberry and citrus notes in the taste followed by some alcohol notes. Quite interesting.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of moderate tropical fruits (peaches and passionfruit especially) and some citrus hops. Flavour comes across as a cross between a IIPA and a barley wine, with quite a cloyingly sweet syrupy quality, balanced pretty badly with citrusy hops. There is an unpleasant astringency that lingers along with the syrupy tones. Not sure what the hell this is was supposed to be, but this was a big miss for me. A surprising disappointment from Sierra Nevada.

Draft. Amber beer with a big whitish head. Yeast and grapefruit aroma. Yeast and spice flavor with grapefruit and pine. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Yeast and spice lingers with grapeferuit and light pine.
