3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate brown color with a short head and not too much lacing. Nose brings some light caramel, toast, and earth as well as a fairly strong hop presence. The taste draws back on the hops, adding in some more earth and light wood as well as some darker malts. Good body with nice carbonation. Slightly dry. Drinks fairly well but not as good as the other boot camp beer I had, the 22 Bines.
Serving type: on-tap

Why can’t all brown ales be like this .. . light whiffs of dark caramel, toffee and pure dark chocolate bar on the tongue .. . very smooth .. . not speedy kids .. . a joy to drink and so awesome on cask! .. . Hank, how’d my head get so fat?

Easy drinker and really nothing to complain about but on the other hand, not much to get excited about. Typical brown ale that leans a tad towards the dark roasty porter/stout side.

Pretty to look at in the glass. Soft palate feels very nice on the tongue. Fairly well balanced if not a bit leaning towardsd the hops. Decent but I would not have a second.

On tap at Church Key DC: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a large frothy, well-lacing light tan head. Has a fresh citrusy hop nose with a lightly toasted caramel maltiness. Starts with a nice light sweetness with some nutty character and lots of resiny piny hop flavor before a drier, crisp, bittersweet finish. A nice hoppy brown ale.
