Beer Camp #47 from 3/7/2011.

Brewed with Tim Bluhm, and our friends—Chico’s own—The Mother Hips! This easy-drinking, German-style Helles lager finds its groove through a delicate balance of hops and malt.

On tap @ Torpedo Room. Clear straw colored beer with a white head. Floral and herbal hop aromas come through here. Some surprising bitterness on the back end as well. Somewhat of a creamy note here, which is a little odd. Nice bread and biscuit dough malts. Moderately sweet, light in body, and fairly lively carbonation. Really strong floral notes and bitterness kind of diminish my enjoyment of this beer, though.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours a clear pale yellow color with a very creamy white head. The aroma is strong with lemon, menthol and a little noble-like herbal hops. Very intense for the style. The flavor is the same. Very strong lemon, herbals and spicy bitterness. A little menthol and cleaning fluid in the finish, but not too harsh. Very strong hop character for this style. The pale maltiness is completely lost. Not very traditional. I could’ve done without the cleaning fluid hop character as well. Still somewhat interesting.

4oz pour at the Max’s Taphouse Beer Camp event. Pours a clear gold with some clumpy, cloudy white head. Nose has honey, a little lavender, malt, flowers, chrysanthemum. Flavor is sweet, some lemon, some honey over bread, herbal tea, flower petals. Clean finish. Rather true to style.

Light, crisp and infinitely drinkable helles lager. There is a subtle complexity between the malt and hops, with neither being overshadowed.

On tap at Capitol Beer. Pours blonde with a nice off-white head and a bitter caramel malt flavor. Lots of rose hip, especially in the finish.

Tap @ The Noble Fir, Seattle... Poured clear golden yellow with a fizzy, lacy, white head. Easy drinking, a great palate cleanser beer. for sure. Foamy mouthfeel, highly carbonated. Bready malts and cracker-like grains, some floral hops, a mild bitterness, and light fruit along with yeast. But mostly the yeast was quite clean. Overall this beer was unobtrusive on the palate.
