COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This imperial red ale takes the intense hop profile found in traditional double ipa and turns up the malt. It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach, and melon--balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.

Slightly hazed ruby red with a very large creamy tan crown that relinquishes itself slowly. Aroma is a floral and toffee mix with citrus, grapefruit, caramel, bready malt and sticky buns. Taste is sweet with caramel, toffee, citrus, grapefruit, orange and light booze. Moderate bitterness on the finish.

I’m currently rating every SN brew I’ve ever had in one clean sweep. I grew up on the classic SN Pale having it around during high school, and since have watched SN grow into a national representation of incredible craft beer. Living 45 mins away is a treat for the random growler fill. Keep up the amazing work and thanks!

Bottle. Deep red-orange with a frothy clingy head. The aroma is enticing, very hoppy with an undercurrent of sweet bready malts. The palate is malt forward, with breadcrusts, caramel, and milk chocolate balanced by ripe tropical fruit hop character. I think the age on this has tempered the bitterness somewhat, because I would characterize this as moderately bitter at most. Superb balance here, lovely flavours.

Tasting Notes - On Tap at Brick Store in Atlanta at a 2012 Premire. This poured a dark amber color with a beige head. The aroma is full of citrus, caramel, and some dark fruit. The flavor is very bitter like an Impy IPA with many malty aspects of an amber ale. This is well balanced and tasty. Overall this is a good beer.

Bottle from/at/with Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Very good balance of these things: malty, bitter, warming, full flavoured, correct hopping level (not over the/a top). Went down good. May have contributed to me leaving half my beers on a bus.

Drunken bass players? Could be a long session indeed. Beer camp sounds like a fun thing to do. Probably be a urination outside tents issue though. Hope the Korg player is relatively sober.

Bottle Beer Camp variety pack from BevMo: Poured a deep dark shade of amber red with mahogany tinting with a thick lather of head that looked similar to shaving cream. Nose is decked with sugary sweet malts that smell perfectly toasted while a slight nuttiness comes through as well. The flavor is semi sweet with a moderate taste of toffee like candy stemming from the quality malts put in usage by Sierra Nevada. This is a solid effort beer and passes the grade in my beer camp recruits.

THOUGHTS: Both malty and hoppy. Like a red IPA. A less roasty black IPA. Very nice and different. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark, brownish red with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma had moderate dark bread, cookie and caramel; hints of chocolate; light to moderate pine and citrus hops; cherry; raspberry; and maybe even a little strawberry. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet and moderately bitter with a long duration. There was caramel malt, dark bread, pine and citrus hops, cherry, cookie, resinous hops, berry and cake. The medium to full body was fairly oily with fizzy carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

Bottles from the beer camp 12 pack. Finally, I have found something that rivals hop head red and isnt a 12 dollar bomber. However, this is not mass produced either, so I guess I will keep searching. Red color - tan head - loads of hops in the nose. Taste is crisp, hoppy, kind of thick and malty. Really good beer, the best of the beer camp 12.
