COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our aggressive Imperial Red Ale is a massive mix of smooth malts and West Coast hops that have no patience for the lupulin leery. This crimson beer starts with caramel-like malt flavor that can’t suppress the assertive, citrusy hop finale.

12 ounce bottle from the recent Beer Camp 12-pack ($19.99 for 12-pack). Pours a brown-red (ice tea) color with a finger and a half of beige-ish foam leaving some lacing. AROMA of floral and herbal earthy hops with some citrus with an almost equal amount of nutty brown malts. FLAVOR has an initial strong citric hoppiness along with some pine but soon moves toward nutty caramel malts. An almost chocolate-like sweet flavor in the finish along with some bitter hops. Well-concealed alcohol. Not sure why Sierra Nevada ran an "imperial red" in two consecutive beer camp packs, but I think I prefer the 2012 version more than this one. The hop profile in the 2012 version was more interesting, while this one seems to try to make a 50:50 split between hops and malt. (137, 814)

Bottle. Poured a clear ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good malt and west coast citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid brew.

A lightly hazed reddish amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with good piney and floral hops, fragrant. In mouth a good caramel and vinous malt with treacle, loads of piney floral hops, pink grapefruit, loads of alcohol, very nice.

Bottle from my Bro Pete for my B-Day. Pours a dark amber with red highlights. The aroma is sweet with caramel and bread. The flavor has the sweetness up front but quickly gives way to the citrus and peppery hops. Quite dry with a very nice after taste. The alcohol is hidden.

2013 Beer Camp Version. Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and ample tan head. Aroma is a ripe floral fruit hop note. Taste is a nice blend of roast caramel malt and hops. Very good.

Draft @ Ginger Man in Greenwich, CT. This is a silky, but powerful red ale. Faint cherry notes blended nicely with the citrus notes of the hops. Good one and done beer, wouldn’t want two of these in one night, hooray moderation.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear reddish color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of caramel and citrus. Big fruity hops, medium bitterness some dusty caramel. Good. Very hoppy.

12 oz. A: Dark red verging on purple. Creme colored, fluffy head. Decent lacing. Sterling presentation. N: Pineapple and mango. Leafy hops. Sweet bread dough. Touches of pine. T: Well balanced. Rough hops propped by good malt sweetness. Hints of citrus, and lots of pine/earth. M: Surprisingly thick and creamy. Resinous. Yet very easy to drink. Very impressed here. O: I tend to hate Imperial reds because they’re so abrasive. Pretty happy with this.

12 oz. bottle, part of the Beer Camp 12 pack. Pours a deep ruby red with clear edges. One finger creamy beige head with a good amount of lace. Strong citrus hop aroma with a sweet caramel malt background. Lots of juicy citrus flavor softened by sweet malty goodness. Full bodied. Yummy!

I do not believe I’ve had a better beer than this. Not a fan of malty ambers, but this is more of an ipa. Perfectly balanced. The almost perfect beer.
