COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our aggressive Imperial Red Ale is a massive mix of smooth malts and West Coast hops that have no patience for the lupulin leery. This crimson beer starts with caramel-like malt flavor that can’t suppress the assertive, citrusy hop finale.

This red ale is so dark it almost looks black. The head is bitter and stick. Pininess and dusty dirt characterize the aroma. The flavor starts with caramel malt instantly crushed by the west coast hops and leading into the smoothest finish available in a beer anywhere. All hail IRAs. If you aren’t smiling this will wipe that frown clean off your face.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Bottle from Beercraft in Rohnert Park, CA. Clear amber pour with a small wispy head. Citrus / herbal hops with plenty of caramel and booze - comes off a little medicinal. Crisp on the palate.

Bottle. Pours clear deep ruby mahogany, medium beige head that slowly dissipates leaving nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, resin, cat piss, caramel. Flavor is about the same, light sweet and medium bitter. Caramel adds a little sweetness up front, but then the bitterness takes over and brings it all home. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Perhaps a bit too much bitterness on the finish, but otherwise tasty.

Bottle to pint. Deep ruby color. Aroma of sweet malt and dark fruit. Taste is big on pine and strong malt, also red fruit and a bit boozy. Heavy beer. Bitter finish.

Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Spicy and grassy hops, medium bitterness, some sweet and bready malts, and a lingering bitter finish. Pretty good.

12oz into a stemmed belgian. Head is heafty and full with marshmellow likeness. Aroma is sweet plums, rasin, blackberries, and soil. Taste is malty up front, the amber offering bring forth a smooth ride down the pallate, but forthcoming hop bombs ring in a diffrent tune and spice this one up some. Its a full frontal blast of amber excellence in the long run. Caramel malt tranfusions usher in a resounding balance of continuation, as does the yeast balance and the full bodied brew. The abv centers along the line of resounding but does not seem too out of line. This brew hols steady along the line and is my second favorite tihs year. I really like how the hops sneak right in and shower one with the bitterness and juicky flow of an ipa, then the malts overturn such action and befuddle the course, bring this version an imperial status. Nice brew.

Bottle. Cherry wood color with a creamy head. Lemony hops, grass, grapefruit, and alcohol. Has a light sweetness that carries through, and the typical sierra nevada hoppy bitterness. This was my favorite from the 2013 beer camp sampler.

An average, yet still tasty imperial red ale. Aroma was decent. Big on roasted malt, ash and burnt caramel. Pour was a nice deep dark red with a one finger off white head. Taste was nice. Roasted malt melds nicely with the heavy hop bitterness. The hops contribute more bitterness than flavor, however. Finish is bitter and wet. Nice carbonation.

Moderate resin hop aroma with a light amount of malt. Hazy red color with a medium off white head. Starts with a mild bitter flavor that becomes very string in the finish.

Overall: I liked this beer, but I remember last year’s camp pack imp red ale was much more one sided hoppy. This version is certainly more American Strong than red as the malt component is fierce with the assertive piney hoppiness still. Booze is prevelant, caramel malts, fruity. Super clean palate with medium thickness.
