COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This imperial red ale takes the intense hop profile found in traditional double ipa and turns up the malt. It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach, and melon--balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark redish amber with a finger of long lasting off-white head. Aroma is mostly pine and citrus with a good dose of caramel malt. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Loads of citrus and caramel with a bit of pine in the aftertaste. Full bodied with a thick and sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, great. I wouldn’t mind if they made this a new year-round.

12oz bottle. Filtered glowing red-amber. Foamy off-white head. Cool to see Sierra Nevada not only finally tackle an red, but also really nail it. BIg and full bodied, but quite balanced and drinkable too. Fruity amber malt and rich caramel malt is held in check by steady piny hop tones. SOme acidity in the back of the mouth. Veru good.

2012 12 oz. bottle from a pint glass. Reddish brown pour with a small than head. Aroma is all malts, where the taste has a strong malt profile. Lots of caramel with a decent citrusy hop finish. Would of like it a little more hoppy good beer

330ml bottle from Archive. Pours a very deep tarnished copper colour with a good even layer of light brown foam. The nose carries some fruitiness with pech and nectarine aromas. Strong alcohol kick in the aroma.

Bottle. Grapefruit, pine, caramel and light chocolate aroma. Cloudy deep amber with a moderate beige head. Piney grapefruit hops, astringent, roasty burnt caramel malt flavor with a resinous hoppy bitter finish. Medium body, lively carbonation.

Citrusy, malty and hoppy... like a "red" ipa... I like it. Much like New Belgium’s Red Hoptober, but not quite on the same level... still pretty darn good though!

Very well balanced nose with candy sweet grapefruit and foggy malts. Pours a very nice deep amber with a strong head. Flavour is tons of sweet malt with some underpinning bitter hippiness. Finish is slightly cloying but strong and dry. Not bad.

355ml bottle. Pours an amber to honey colour with a nice head. The nose has cake mixture, biscuits and jam. The taste has more biscuits, a spicy note that is kinda like liquorice and definitely some red fruit in there, but very dry. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a lean dry finish. Overall, a little on the dry side for me, but good all the same.

there are citrus and piney hop notes with floral qualities too then theres toffee flavored maltiness...clear amber red brown color with very creamy off white head..tastes tingly with hops and spice of a piney and citrus nature(this is a west coast brewery all the way)with a welcome caramel/roasty hop background very ngood and complex quite a surprise..medium bodied and creamy texture..overall much less astringent than most red ales and much more flavorful and complex this is a keeper sierra nevada

Clear crimson red color, off white head. Solid one finger head. streaky lacing. Nose is of pine and caramel. Good pine nose with good caramel backing. Pine, grapefruit, bread, caramel, peach and melon. Good assertive bitterness. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. To me the best of the bunch this year.
