Beer Camp #42 from January 2011. This black IPA strikes a perfect balance between dark and roasted malt flavors, and bright and floral whole-cone hops. Featuring a hint of black malt, India Ink has notes of chocolate and anise and mild roasted flavors working in counterpoint to a blend of aromatic experimental and New Zealand hops.

"khaki head that almost makes the beer look as if itís on nitro. grapefuit, tropical notes, roasted black malt and chocolate. this is a "black ipa" done better than most, and was my surprise favorite of the night, with several good beers had. some in the style just seem to not mesh, flavor or aroma-wise. this one does. black ipa or hoppy stout...it nails it. very good, and of the top 5 SN beers iíve had

tap @ K&B. Pours a dark brownish black with thin off white lacing. Aroma is light sweet roast. Mouth feel is smooth with notes of tobacco, sweet malty roast, tree roots, and finishes with some mild bitter hops.

Cask version at Winking Lizardís 3rd Annual Real Ale Fest (03/26/11): Pours flat black with a medium thick and fluffy beige head that bubbles away steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops and roasted malt. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops flavor that has resiny and floral characteristics. Sweet roasty malt undertone as well. The finish is hoppy with a lingering toasted malt aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a creamy/clingy beige head. Aroma is very floral, almost perfumey to me. Unless that is me! Thereís dark malt in the aroma. Med to full body. Flavor is rough dark malt, chocolate, a touch of anise, and I can imagine coffee. Lots of hop, but itís hard to pin anything down except floral. It finishes bitter, and it is delicious.
