This IPA sacrifices nothing for its drinkability, flexing big time flavor and complexity. The light color disguises the depth of the malt backbone, a pillar that balances the potent whole-cones of the piney-citrus Cascade and tropical fruit-like Citra hops.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a clear copper color. The head is very fluffy, and about two fingers high, with an offwhite shade. It’s pretty rocky in texture, and fades down to a slender film relatively quickly. Plenty of ringed lacing is left down the glass. S: In the proper Sierra Nevada tradition, there is a dominant presence of bitter grapefruit and pine notes from Cascade hops. There’s also a minor caramel malt note to balance things out. I’m a little disappointed in the fact that I don’t really pick up any Citra (melon, mango) hop notes, though. Having said all of that, it’s really not a bad aroma at all - actually, it’s a pretty damn good aroma. T: I have no actual complaints about the flavor profile itself: slight opening malt is quickly cast aside by a decent herbal, piny hop quality, with plenty of (welcome) bitterness to boot. After the mild palate shock, touches of caramel and toffee appear. At first, I was let down by the lack of Citra presence, but lo and behold, a twinge of melon flavor pops up after a while. My biggest problem isn’t the quality - that’s fine and dandy - it’s the fact that there isn’t much difference between this and Torpedo. M: This is where the brew pulls away from Torpedo - if only slightly. It seems to be a bit crisper and cleaner, with only a hint of residual sweetness to quash some of the bitter qualities. I’d even suggest it’s a touch less coarse. Great drinkability for nearly 7%. O: I get a real sense of de ja vu drinking this - put Torpedo’s label on it and I wouldn’t bat an eyelash. I really wish that SN would have differentiated the two brews a bit more, but other than that, this is a fine IPA. Much like Torpedo, really.

An slightly orange beer with a medium and blond head. Aroma has strong caramel malts, peaches and some other tropical nuancees, pine needles. Taste is strongly bitter, piney and resin, caramel malts, some citrusfruits. Medium+ bodied, smooth carbonation. The strong bitterness is dominating and only hint of aromas are noticed. Good anyway.

Aroma: honey, resin, floral hops. Appearance: hazy amber, medium, frothy, white head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: resin, pine, grass - all comes up in the intensifying bitters, relatively short finish. Overall: nice IPA, bit on the bitter side for my taste. Bottle from The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey.

355 ml bottle.
Pours golden color with a large white head. Piney and resinous aroma, citric hops and fruits with fair amount of malts. Caramel malts and resinous hops on the flavor, orange and faint gooseberries too. Quite crisp, almost harsh bitterness. Nice fruitiness but the amount of mats don’t really work for me here, decent anyway.

Bottle from bieresgourmet.be webshop. Pours a hazy deep orange body with a large cloudy white head. Nose is peaches, mango, grapefruit, citric peel, grass and hints of caramel, syrup and lemongrass. Taste is pine, citric peel, resin, peaches, bready malts and hints of herbs and grapefruit. Medium body and carbonation. Both fruity and assertively bitter, this is an enjoyable IPA for sure.

Bottle from SB. Pours two fingers of head. Nose is a bit sour and earthy. Taste is very bitter but lacks some of the citrus experience I expected. Good, but not perfect. Maybe it should have been more fresh.

Transfer from BA review on 8-23-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a clear light amber color with a thick and billowy two finger just off white head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a fantastic level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is largely of an earthy and pine hop nature. Mixed with these smells are some grapefruit hop as well as a bit of a biscuit smell as well as a little bit of a spice smell. Taste – The taste begins with a bit of caramel sweetness and a good deal of toasted malt which create a base for the flavors of the brew. A lighter hop flavor of a pine and grapefruit nature are present from the start as well. These hop flavors however don’t remain level, but instead, gain strength as the taste advances to the end. A bit of herbal and an earthy hop taste join the flavors at the end to produce a clean hoppy taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is average to slightly below average. The lower carbonation helps accentuate the hop flavors of the brew while the average body makes it still quite easy to drink. Overall -A good IPA. It is kind of a harvest/torpedo hybrid in flavor and profile. Overall easy drinking and a nice one to try.
