COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This big oatmeal stout is midnight black in color--with a big roasty, mocha-like aroma. It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish. Perfect as an after dinner treat.

12 oz. bottle- Pours black with a one finger mocha colored head that reduces to a skiff and collar. Aroma is roasted malt, oats, creamy, but could be more assertive. The taste is so smooth and silky, not really getting any harsh roastedness of the malt, the oats really mellow things out. Chocolate and coffee are there, but smooth, little hops, what are there blends wonderfully, this should be in their regular lineup, great beer. Body is thick, meal in a glass.

12oz into a pint. I can definately feel the power in both the aroma and the taste, this is a big brew. Dark as night, taste is roasty, dark and bitter chocolate, molasses, and chewy rasin and fig mixture. Head simmers to nothing really, the brew still hovers in front of you daring to be challenged. The abv comes across in the taste, but is welcomed with the expanding malts that shine though. Body is rich and a bit syrupy, but goes down quite elegantly and fluid. Top notch imperial stout.

Pitch black. 2 finger head. Didnít get much in the nose. Mouthfeel is very silky. Taste is full of toasted goodness. Chocolate, marshmallow, nuttiness, and other nice deep toasted notes. Sweetness balances out the high alcohol. Nice beer for an occasional treat.

Bottle. Didnít realize this was 9% ABV. Wasnít looking to open anything high-test. Oh well. Black pour with a medium, dense brown head. Roasted malt, burnt caramel, toasted oatmeal, chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Taste is big roasted malt, dark chocolate, burnt oatmeal, hops, coffee notes, some soft dark fruit notes, faint tobacco and molasses. Body is silky smooth and medium-full overall. Carbonation is dense and creamy. Mild alcohol warmth as well. Ends with more dark chocolate, burnt caramel, molasses, light tobacco, roasted malt, hops, oatmeal and softer coffee.

This is a great beer, the biggest in the mix pack, very well done, thick and tasty, tastes almost like a milk stout, or a bitter stout, very smooth, abv not detectable, awesome brew. Love it

Dark roast coffee nose. Dark mahogany, thin tan head. Rather intense flavor of coffee and prunes. Tree bark and charred oak also present. Full body. Finishes with a smoky malt bitterness. Powerful and complex, this is definitely a sipper. A bit heavier on the dark fruit than I prefer. Perhaps a little too big and bold.

Bottle from the BC 12 pack. Pours inky black, dark brown highlights. Good texture, not too viscous. Smooth chocolate on the nose, some roasted character. Milk chocolate right up front, dark chocolate on the back end, with a late, surprising hop bitterness. Remarkably smooth for the abv. Really nice.

8/7/12. 12oz bottle from Grassroots. Black pour with a nice brown head that fades but laces a ton. Rich mocha aroma with bits of ash and char. Lovely dark chocolate flavor with bits of coffee and roast. Nice slick mouthfeel. Tasty and the abv is well hidden. Nice!

Iíve been known to down a few pints of stout - in Ireland. But most of the stouts Iíve had in the U.S. (including Guinness), are just not my style. So imagine my surprise when I actually bought this stout to try. It pours a thick, inky brown-black with a small head of foam. Aroma of malt and - root beer? Even some coffee. The taste is really good, and I am not a lover of dark ales. Could it be the 9% alcohol level, almost twice that of Guinness? Hmmm. Complex malts, and very creamy with a sticky-sweet mouth feel. I like it!

Beer Camp mix pack 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours an inky dark brown color with a dark brown head. Average head retention. Aroma of oats, nuts, sweet roasted malts, herbal hops. The taste is roasted malts, herbal hops, an umami note, nuts, oatmeal and a bitter finish. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, lingering bitterness. Nice beer.
