Really impressed. Pretty thirst quenching for being such a bitter beer. Maltiness and fizz wrap the mouth then a nice bitter.

Holy shit, am I really #8 rating on a Sierra Nevada brew? On tap at San Diego Brewing Co. I caught the end of the keg on this one, so maybe my rating isn’t quite fair. I don’t know how I could recheck it, unless this becomes readily available. Clear amber with a beautiful dense white head. Nose is high, crisp sweetness. Lemon and green grapes peek out from the yeast. Taste is a bit mixed up. Kinda sweet and kinda not. Bitterness and a bit of maltiness hiding in the back. Meh, but I’ll need to back it up with a sample that’s not spitting foam from the tap.

Draft (Toronado SD) Clear yellow, somewhat thick whitish head, nose of sweet corn, but in a decent way, I suppose. Thick, grassy & Sweet with alcohol hotness. This is like a crafty malt liquor. Did i say THICK, yes, this is the thickest lager I have ever had...and hotter than desired, and grassy. I don’t think I am a fan. No, probably not, it’s like a malt liquor with hops.

On-tap at O’Briens. Pours clearish yellow amber with a thin, fizzy white head, specks of lace. Smells sweet and malty with some dishtowel and some green hops. Tastes big and sweet malty with some lingering bitterness. Some slight citrus along with some green hop flavor. Full, slightly syrupy body, good carbonation.

Tap @ Downtown Johnny Brown’s. Pours a clear golden color with a very thin white head. Nose of citrus hops, banana, and some wheat. Flavor attacked the palate with citrus, yeast and sweet malt. One of the better Pilsener’s I’ve come across.

On Tap @ Hamiltons. Pours gold with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and imposing. Taste is nicely balanced with sweet citrus and a nice hop profile with some of what makes good pilseners great.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On sample at San Diego Brewing Co.; poured a clear gold, with a small, creamy head. Aroma was very floral with a bit of fruit. Flavor of apple, bread and toffee to begin; finish was flowery and fruity. A bit grassy and bready as well, although that seemed to go in and out. A bit unique for the style.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This imperial Pilsener was brewed by a consortium of 7 California beer retailers, using tank 7 at the brewery with an APV of 7.7%. Since everything came up 7’s, it was named Super 7. There were only a few kegs brewed, so I was very lucky to sample a glass at the S.F. Slow Food festival. This is truly a pilsener on steroids. The 5 pale malts created a very intense and tasty base balanced with Magnum bittering hops and aromatic New Zealand Hallertau and Motueka finishing hops (IBU = 46). The result was a refreshingly crisp carbonated beer with plenty of flavor topped with a fluffy white head.
