COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Bouteille 75cl, anno 2015.

(Sierra Nevada Bigfoot - Barrel Aged) Bottle 650 ml from Summer Secret Santa, many thanks! Corked and caged, vintage 2015. Served into a snifter, ABV 11.9% Deep red coloured body, clear, with almost a full finger of thick, dark beige head on top, with good retention. Aroma has malts, caramel, red fruits, alcohol, vanilla, bourbon. Taste is sweet, lots of alcohol present, red fruits, caramel, vanilla, malts, dates, bourbon. Medium body, carbonation on the high side, sticky palate. Very good.

Bottle share @ DLD 2016. Bottle from 2010. Pour is deep red/tan with no head. Aroma and flavor of metal, burnt malt, whiskey, and oak. Finish is very metallic and thin. Unfortunately it was oxidized.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber body with a small fizzy beige head. The nose is fairly restrained as far as the booziness goes, I expected a lot more. The huge hop nose of regular bigfoot is lessened quite a bit, it’s showing a lot more malt than hops. A rather light whiskey note and some woodiness. The flavor is quite similar to the aroma, a little more wood and bourbon than I was expecting from the nose. A rather warming finish, but I wouldn’t call it hot. I think all in all I prefer the regular version actually, though even that beer I like with a few years on it. For the heftiness of this beer you’d expect the mouthfeel to be a lot heavier and sticky, but it’s not really. Pretty enjoyable beer, but I think I’ll stick to the regular version, you can’t beat the classic.

On tap at Torpedo Room in Berkeley, California-USA. Dark purple vivid appearance, off-white foam. Nose: ouh! Vanilla, milk shake, macerated cherries! Mamma Mia! Mouth: mirrors the nose with a more complex chili finish. Great beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle, 2015 vintage, 11.9% ABV. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours a murky brownish/ruby red color with about an inch light tan head that stayed around for a very long time. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like vanilla, bourbon, dark fruit, toffee, oak and a bit of chocolate. However, the taste isn’t as nice as the aroma. There’s an unpleasant medicinal bitter flavor that luckily weakened somewhat the longer I drank it, along with some dark fruit, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar and booziness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s syrupy and has a decent amount of carbonation. I didn’t have any problem finishing the bottle, but I didn’t like that medicinal flavor in this brew at all. At $19.99 a bottle I’ll pass on this in the future at that price. I’ll just stick with regular Bigfoot instead.

Draft into a snifter at Brouwer's. Brown color with ruby highlights and a khaki ring. Syrupy sweet and boozy aroma with a hint of wood and vanilla. Mellow flavor of vanilla, tobacco and molasses, with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Well done to make it drinkable and not over-the-top. No hint of the ABV at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2015 edition. Poured 03.16.16. A: Marmalade, oak, lemon, funky sour cherry. A: Thin off-white head quickly fades to a ring and swirls of foam. Hazy dark red body. T: Bitter grass, vinegar, and sour raisin dominate. O: I had high hopes for this one, but it smelled awful before even tasting. The sourness was overwhelming in the smell and flavor. There were no toffee, caramel, toasted coconut, or whiskey flavors. Surprisingly, this was a drain pour. Maybe it was infected.
