I like Sierra Nevada’s offerings in general, but this one tops them all!. Deep, cloudy amber orange with a filmy head. Aroma is dominated by hops with accompanying malty notes. A beer to savor and nurse. Hoppy bitterness, yet a smoothness at the same time. A pleasant syrupy texture. Leaves a biting pleasant bitterness in the after taste. A sweet malty taste with a great hoppy finish. Nik925 (326), California, USA

Pours a beautiful, clear ruby brown with a rocky off-white head. Aromas of spicy hops, caramel and oranges. Flavors of caramel, toffee, orange, milk chocolate and light vanilla. Starts sweet and finishes bitter. Full mouth-coating, sticky body. A truly fantastic ale. portableparty (28), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2010 12 oz. bottle to snifter. Aroma sweet earthy malt caramel. Appearance is light brown amber with lasting head and lacing that lasts. Taste bitter (2010 bottle) little sweetness honey and a dry finish. Palate medium slick and finishes dry. Overall solid barley wine, which will get better when aged. Angelmonster (35), Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2010 This review is of a 09 year aged bottle
Pours a nice 3 finger beige head. Body is a amber brown in color. Head retention was good and lacing was great.
Aroma is a nice of sweet malt, piny hops, and some diacetyls. Honey like sweetness hides any alcohol smell
Taste is sweet malt and diacetyls. After that bitter, piny hops come in. Surprised that after a year the hops are still pretty present. The aging of the beer has toned down the hops abit and the alcohol is well restrained
Mouthfeel is good. Pretty medium bodied which is average for barleywine. Carbonation is good and lively. Head contributed somewhat creaminess to the body
Overall this beer is much better with a year on it compared to a fresh one. Semi sessionable considering the style, could down a few at a time. I have acouple more of this vintage, pretty sure they will improve each year, looking forward to it. waltersrj (101), Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2010 Pineapple, caramel, citrus, hops, and barley in the nose. The taste is similar with a citrus/hop forward taste, finished with a nice barley malt. The pour is dark caramel with an off white head and there is minimal lacing. I really love barley wines and this one is both great and cheap. Thanks SN. thirdeye11 (979), Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2010 (draught at Holy Grail Pub) pours rich copper with creamy head and great coating of the glass. Nose of pineapple, caramel, and very hoppy citrus aromas. Taste of pine hops, lots of bitterness, sweet caramel backing it up and a verg creamy thick finish. With age this one is much better.
