jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 30, 2009 (bottle). Pours an amber color. Medium size off-white head. Moderate lacing. Hoppy aroma. Hoppy and alcohol flavor. Smooth finish, with lasting alcohol flavor. Moderate carbonation. yobdoog (1417), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Apr 30, 2009 Finally a rating for Bigfoot. Always a go-to Barleywine. Very balance and always drinkable. Dark muddy brown usually with not much head. Aroma is sweet and when fresh has a nice hop bite. Taste is smooth and sweet with a little bitterness. Ages really well and I prefer aged bottles. Unibonger (28), Mount Shasta, California, USA Apr 29, 2009 This has just became one of my favorite brews, as the rating shows (though I’m weary of giving it a 5 tbh).
The aroma is full on hops but I’m picking up a little skunky type scent too. It pours a nice deep copper/amber color with little head retention (though its better when warmer I noticed).
Strong hop flavor, which I didn’t realize barleywines were known for. It starts out strong, then slightly mellows before finishing with another strong bitterness. Some malty hues but not much. Good level of carbonation a nice mouthfeel to it. One of the smoothest high percent brews I’ve had to date. Aggy360 (115), Anchorage/ Vista,CA, Alaska, USA Apr 29, 2009 Wow, what a great brew. Pours a nice light brown with a off-white, tanish head. Sweet malty nose, great body, smooth. Not very hoppy for an American barleywine. Sweet brew with the right balance of hops. Hides the 9.6% ABV well. You can tell it is a Sierra Nevada brew, it’s an easy drinker for the style. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2009 Light brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of fruit and malts. Cascade hops are present as well. Very good barley wine but I enjoyed it better years ago on tap in Chico. BgThang (118), Texas, USA Apr 26, 2009 This is another favorite barleywine of mine.
It pours a deep brown/reddish color.
the nose is of candy. kinda of like the jar of hard candy grandma used to have.
There are hopps also. the head was outstanding.
lasted well in to the beer.
Definitely should let this warm up a bit to let the beer breathe and release its goodness. The back end left you questing for more. Also had this on tap and it was just as good.

Reviewed on: 04-09-2008 08:58:45 fluffy (229), Florida, USA Apr 24, 2009 im sure if you are into overtly strong hops flavors, youd like this better. but i dont. so i give it a low rating. its not bad at all, its just not my style. someone please come finish this for me. i cant drink anymore. possumjc (99), Charleston - Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, USA Apr 24, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a deep amber with a tan head. Aroma has nice fruit and malt smells. Strong hops flavor dominates. Since it is a high gravity beer the alcohol flavor is stronger than other beers. This one coats the palate with that nice thick barleywine feel. The flavor is the weakest part of this beer. It’s nice but I was expecting a touch more sweetness.
