This barley wine poured a beautiful dark amber with a creamy head of lasting beige foam. Nice lacing. The aroma consisted of rich caramel, fresh grapefruit, pine, and citrus. Very perfumey and floral, but not enough to cover up the rich malt bill. The flavor was loaded with grapefruit and tropical fruits. Oily and resinous. A good helping of caramel is there to smooth things out, but the hops are the star of the show. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a lightly sticky, oily feel. Light carbonation. With about two or so months of age, this is drinking very nice. Excellent beer! PJClarke (620), London, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 20, 2009 Very lively, bit red/orange with a yellowish head. Big hop bouquet, with small hints of tropical fruits, but not too much really. Very big hops hit here. Very intense and hugely drying. Some very heady fruitiness, maybe something like cranberries with a redcurrant tartness. A nice thickness and carbonation cannot stop this being a hard bottle to get through. A little overly intense and far too drying for a barley wine in my opinion. gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA

Full 2-3 fingers of medium duration, pancake batter consistency head. Buttery-sweet malt aroma. First taste is all bread, but then the bitter hops kick in at the end. Nice beer; alcohol is decently well concealed, but for the warm burn down into the chest about 5 seconds after taking a full drink. yemenmocha (354), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 18, 2009 Pours off-amber color with some brownish colours. Contrasting off-white had is thick and retains well.
Nose has a buttery interpretation of maltiness, reminding me of overbuttered toast in the morning. Bready quality is there. Some citrus prickle too.
On the palate the malt is very well balanced with hops. Not a malt monster, not a hop monster either. Big beer, but balanced.
Finish is medium long and malty sweet. Drinkability is higher than usual for a b-wine. foosnbrews (35), Parker, Colorado, USA

Aroma had a definate citrus hop note. Beer flavor was extremeley hoppy which was exagerated by the alchol presence. Definate maltiness was also present. Palate was nice for the style but a little sticky. Overall the beer was good. This isn’t something I could drink all the time but on occasion is great BREWMUSKCLES (1067), New Jersey, USA

Pours dark orange, almost brown, with a thick, creamy head. Head mostly diminishes rapidly. Aroma is lightly hoppy with some sweetness. Flavor is bitter grapefruit with a malt backbone for a great blend of sweetness. Long and pleasant finish where you fully appreciate the grapefruit flavor. A very well balanced barley wine. ben4321 (984), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s 4/12/09, for the rating (not my first drinking of this one)
Aroma: Fruits, caramel, some hops
Appearance: Nice reddish brown beer, thin cream head, decent lacing
Flavor: Hoppy bitterness - some citrus here, with just enough malt backing to balance it out properly
Palate: A nice mouthfeel, and a good amount of body
Overall Impression:
A really solid barley wine that leans toward the hoppy side. I haven’t had one of these for a while before tonight, and had forgotten how tasty it was.
