Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Why call this a barleywine? More apt description is red IPA. When they say ’fruity’ bouquet they mean Cascadey, Chinooky, Centennial hops. The thing that saved this beer for me was the attempt to balance the hops with a malty finish.

2007 bottle from Lone Hill Liquor in Glendora, CA. Dark coppered amber color. Aged very well with great hop finish. Maltiness is very apparent in retrospect to the hops. Very good though.

12oz bottle. Aroma of floral resinous hops, alcohol and sweet toasty malt. A clear deep amber brown with a tan thick head that leave nice lacing. The flavor is bitter and alcohol with a sweet background. Sticky thick mouth feel, medium to full bodied with low carbonation. This is a nice barley wine, the high bitterness is balanced well with the sweet malty flavor and the alcohol taste isn’t too strong.

Saw this on the menu at a great pub, and then later at the day a great beer seller. Corny name but the coincidence got me. Turned out to be surprising good. Smooth, rich barley wine, with some warmth, but with more hops than expected. Worth trying again sometime especially given the relatively low price.

Dark copper and a beatuful bouquet. This beer is also nice and creamy. It is not as good as Old Foghorn or Behemoth, but not as costly either.

On draft at the Abbey brewing company. Clear amber pour with fair head retention and legs. Massively hopped. Moderately hot alcohol flavors. I’d love to try this aged. Tried again aged, and this is fantastic. Still has the cascade hops. Very good and balanced. Great brew.

Vintage 2009. Great aroma, love that the hops can be found here. Nice head and color, somewhat dark copper. Very balanced for a barleywine, perfect amount of hops to counterbalance the maltyness. Definitely better than the Duck Rabbit barleywine. Aging my 2nd one for a bit as I’m sure it can be even better!
