Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

First time i review this beer. 6th year in a row i try it out. The Aroma is bitter with some sweet fudge. The taste is realy bitter at first but the after taste is the real kicker here. At first it’s the fudge that is kicking in but after the fudge a subtle bitterness is taking over. The overall taste is toasted bitternes.

Draft. Nose is strong in caramel and toffee. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Orange marmalade. Deep red pour with medium sized off white head, tight, tiny bubbles. Taste is initially a huge malt bomb that quickly shows a moderate to high bitterness to balance. Not for the faint of heart, the malt and hops are turned to 11 on this one, while the alcohol is always smooth and never hot. Barely warming. After a few sips it becomes more drinkable as opposed to sippable. Damn good American barleywine.

Vintage 2016.

3Brown/Red with a very thin off-white head. Aroma is malt and hops. Taste reflects the aroma; very well balanced, but I like less hops in my barley wine.

Pours dense hazy brown, with a thin tan white head. Aroma is floral, dark fruits, yeast. Complex in the palate: it starts sweet, with caramel, dark fruit, bread then the dry hops kick in giving a good balance and a bitter after taste. Thick and sticky, full bodied, well hidden booze. A great sipper!
