Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

2009 Bottle. Smells of apricots and barley.Full bodied and bright with a sweet bitter finish. You can taste the alcohol in this one but is not to bad on palate. Plums and apricots with a nice hops bitter and somewhat citrus finish left after the hops. Great barley wine beer. Need more.

Poured from bottle into Snifter. Red. Depending on the light, it can range from an almost pinkish-maroon to dark ruby. Very thin head but nice lacing. Aroma of dark fruits (plum) and some alcohol. Grapefruit is also evident but the smell is really not too overpowering in the hop department, despite the upcoming assault on my taste buds. Begins with expected Barleywine profile (fruit, caramel) before being quickly overtaken by a strong grapefruit bitterness, which lasts long after taking a sip. Somewhat thick and chewy, with moderate carbonation. Slightly warming. Tastes great, but very alcoholic and unbelievably bitter. Slow sipper and I really don’t want more than one. I am excited to try this again after sitting in my basement for a year.

First barlywine Ive ever had on tap, it was actually very good. I was from all, looked all red in the glass, the taste was great. A very good brew that I had several of in one night. One thing i could say would be to give it more time to age.

Very full-bodied and really intense. It has lots of hoppiness with the dark chocolate nutty taste of something like a stout. A very dark cola brown with a hint of redness. Pretty good, but not for those who don’t like their beer as dark and heavy as it gets.

Now this is a big beer! Caramel sundae aroma with a hint of pine. Huge flavour on the tongue featuring sweet toffee, dark fruit, slight earth/woody undertones, and finishing with hop bitterness and warm booze. Very complex and enjoyable. Thanks for the hint Brian at True Vine.

Bottle. Deep red colour with a medium-sized off-white head. Fruity aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon and malt. Bittersweet and fruity flavour with caramel, malt and a hint of alcohol. Medium-bodied and a long bitter aftertaste.

decent barley wine. had 2 of these from tap at the mellow mushroom in birmingham, al. also picked up 1 more to bring back home with me. i drank this along side with a stone old gardian 2009 and a north coast old stock 2008 and will have to say that i liked this one best. i cant quit remember the aroma because i am going on memory but i remember the taste being very complex. hops, caramel, malt, plums, and raisins. it was also by far the most bitter of the barley wines which gives it extra points in my book. surprisingly drinkable for a barley wine as well. went down much quicker than the others.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a deep, clear ruby red with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, with a piney hop scent. Doesn’t taste as good as it smells, has a mild caramel, dark fruit, and sweet malt taste, with a piney hop bite aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thinner than you would think, it’s light/medium. Pretty good, but I’ve had better.
