Archibaldo de la Cruz (394), Finland Oct 24, 2009 Bottle. Deep red colour with a medium-sized off-white head. Fruity aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon and malt. Bittersweet and fruity flavour with caramel, malt and a hint of alcohol. Medium-bodied and a long bitter aftertaste. EvilKingWilson (11), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Oct 20, 2009 decent barley wine. had 2 of these from tap at the mellow mushroom in birmingham, al. also picked up 1 more to bring back home with me. i drank this along side with a stone old gardian 2009 and a north coast old stock 2008 and will have to say that i liked this one best. i cant quit remember the aroma because i am going on memory but i remember the taste being very complex. hops, caramel, malt, plums, and raisins. it was also by far the most bitter of the barley wines which gives it extra points in my book. surprisingly drinkable for a barley wine as well. went down much quicker than the others. mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Oct 20, 2009 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a deep, clear ruby red with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, with a piney hop scent. Doesn’t taste as good as it smells, has a mild caramel, dark fruit, and sweet malt taste, with a piney hop bite aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thinner than you would think, it’s light/medium. Pretty good, but I’ve had better. Hopper (271), San Antonio, Texas, USA Oct 20, 2009 An unclear reddish-brown beer with a small head. The aroma is very sweet & bready. The taste is bready, nutty, malty, alcohol, caramel, & a dash of chocolate. Decenty smooth & nice lacing. I think this needs some time to age as it will balance out the sweetness more. mikkopen (249), Oulu, Finland Oct 17, 2009 350 ml bottle. Dark reddish amber colour, nice off-white head. Strong, sweetish malty aroma with a whiff of alcohol and plenty of fruits and nuts. The flavour is honey-sweet at first, with elements of citrus fruits and spices, but the sweetness is quickly overcome by a strong, warm hoppy bitterness that lingers in the mouth for quite a while. Delicious. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2009 Brewed in the USA... Pours a hazy brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma of fruit, hops, malts, honey and wood. Taste of plums, malts, caramel, spices and alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is thin in body, but packs a big punch in the dry bitter hoppiness. This brew is something you might want to take your time with drinking !!! Cakes (35), New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2009 A dark amber appearance, very light carbonation, aromas of raisins, citrus.
Creamy head. Sonicdescent (372), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2009 A very solid and quite hop forward barleywine that is ultimately drinkable. Highlights include the appearance with a fantastic head. Taste is hampered by a slightly strange aftertaste.
