tdcritch (112), Missouri, USA Mar 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours darker red to brown. Perfect white head. Very heavy beer, with a full body and lots of alcohol, but it is not overwhelming. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Mar 4, 2009 Pours dark amber/light red in color with a hefty tan head. Scents of caramel, molasses, booze and a light pine hop kick. Taste is much the same, nice brown sugar flavor as well. Pleasant alcohol burn but very mild for a barleywine. Extremely tasty. vacantskies (78), Spokane, Washington, USA Mar 4, 2009 2009 batch. The aroma is nutty and mild. The flavor is strong and smooth. The aftertaste is surprisingly mild. Very tasty. baraciisch (138), USA Mar 4, 2009 Burnt orange in color.... Brown sugar and hop filled aroma... Not your typical barleywine... Definitely has some bitterness to balance the sweetness and alcohol content... Enjoyable beer... dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA Mar 4, 2009 Early sample 2009. Pours a dark amber with very small white head. Aroma of a nice cascade hops and fruit. Sweetness at first, turns to bitter, and leaves an alcohol hotness. Likely will be better in a few months. fromred2green (138), , Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours amber in color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is of fresh hops and a little alcohol. Taste is very bitter, fresh hops, and a slight alcohol finish. It is almost too raw and fresh at first, and has a somewhat grassy flavor at first, but gets better as you finish the glass. zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 3, 2009 2009. Really enjoyed this beer. great buy and accessible in most places. crisp aroma, full of hops. full hoppy flavor. BeerBunker (594), Burbank, Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2009 On tap at Binnys South Loop. Pours a dark amber with a frothy off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is of caramel, malt, hops, alcohol, and pine. Taste was very hoppy, with pine, caramel, malt, and very slight alcohol. The ’09 version is way more hopped, and has less of a harsh alcohol bite than last year’s. Lingering pine taste. Very drinkable, almost to the point of absurdity. Far too drinkable for a barley wine.
