Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

2009 12 oz bottle. Nose is much more bitter/malty/hoppy than I expected. Eyes closed I could guess IIPA. Red brown pour with big fluffy tan head that settles down to a creamy oil-slick. Boom! Huge mouth taste and feel. Big fruity spicy burst. Seriously malty then hoppy second and third flavor. It’ll be interesting to sit on this for 6 mo. a year or more. NOT your sweet spicy fruity barley wine right now.

Served in a 12 oz bottle, 9.6% ABV Aroma: Fruity with minimum alcohol Appearance: Dark amber, clear with tan head that dissipates quickly, beer clings to side of the class Flavor: Strong maltiness, sharp hop bitterness, mild winey/plum notes Mouth feel: Warming in the mouth, rich body, low carbonation, sharp hops/alcohol burn in the back of the mouth Overall Impression: The mouth feel is luxurious; the sharp bitterness detracts for malty goodness. As the beer warms the maltiness comes through, this beer should be drank warn.

Ruby-Amber color...1 finger head, if that. Has a very nice flavor or sweentess, but that hops is killin me! im not a favor of big hoppy-bitter beers, and this is almost too much. I can drink it, and its almost worth the bitterness, just because of how great the malt in this one tastes. maybe If I let this one age a bit it will help mellow things out....has the same bitterness to it that the celebration ale has, but this is far better than that one.....

Bottled 12 Fl. Oz. Trade with nearbeer. Appearance: It pours a beautiful, slightly hazy reddish brown beer with a small beige head. Decent lacework. Aroma: Huge amounts of caramel, dates, figs, oranges, raisins, niaouli honey, grapefruit, wood, cranberries, mint toffees accompanied by a lot of hops. Very complex, interesting and pleasant. Flavor and palate: Full bodied. Strong bitterness. Caramel, niaouli honey, cranberries, mint and wood showing up. Wonderful hop profile. Slightly sour. Strong bitter finish with licorice, grapefruit, lemon and mint appearing. Overall impression: A top notch barley wine. I reveled in every sip. Thanks a lot nearbeer!

12oz bottle. Dark amber/red pour with an off-white head, very beautiful looking beer. Hops dominate the nose, cannot discern any other aromas. Good hop flavor, with a nice malty backbone. Very tasty brew.

Mahogany in color with a huge, creamy head that laces the glass. Explosive hop bouquet; citrusy, floral, and spicey. Sierra Nevada embodies the American spirit of brewing with their use of hops. Some of the sweet syrup and sugary raisin character of a barleywine is present but this has a more palatable medium-full body. Most other barleywines I’ve tried have been overwhelming and require a leisurely course of sipping, and even some of Sierra Nevada’s other offerings are so intensely candy-like as to demand care when drinking. The huge hop addition in this beer manages to balance the massive amounts of malt and makes this beer dangerously drinkable. An instant classic.

botle 2008 25th anniversary edition. from ølbutikken. best before 25.01.2009, tasted 15.01.2009 pours a nice clear amber, with a noce thick yellow/brown head. very strong nice hoppy aroma. below that sweetness, notes of good aged beer, slight dark fruity vinous sweetness that goes well with the hops. hop note in flavor so strong i can’t sense it unless i wait a little between sniffs. flavor is very full. supernice balance between sweetness with some dark fruits and various kinds of hops flavors. aftertaste is quite hoppy but not bitter or too much. hands down the best barley wine i’ve ever tasted (don’t like them very much). bottle say barley wine style ale, and that’s what i think it tastes like. a BVIPA lol. very sweet flavor, but every time i think it might be too much, the hops come to the resuce. great brew.
