Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Tap at Lucky Baldwins Strong Ale Fest May 2008. I got the 2001 and my friend Joe the 2000. Deep dark brown color and no head. Like a Belgian quad, the notes were subdued dark fruit, malt, candi sugar and roasted sweet wood. The 2000 was light years better.

2008 bottle. Enjoyed on 3/2/08. Poured dark amber with a white head. Excellent caramel & floral hops. Medium mouthfeel. Very bitter with a lot of alcohol warming. My first barley wine. Very enjoyable overall.

Amber with a white head. Wonderful aroma of sweet caramalt and sweet grassy hoppiness. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. Taste is like the aroma. A big beer with plenty of taste and balance. Wonderful finish.

Medium, but dense mango-yellow head, slightly irregular by fine pearling feed from foxy-amber beer. Inviting nose of hopcake: fresh, citrussy C-hops, grapefruit and other exotic fruit, rosewater and cakebottom. Bitter-hoppy, slightly roasted, maltsweet (-syrup) just not getting through. Bit metallic finish, however, grapefruit peel and raisins. Syrupy MF, very thick & viscous. Alcoholwarming after some time. Very good, if severely bitter Barley Wine.
Many thanks to Darren, who made me realise I had never rated Bigfoot, despite having had it more than once.

HInce hazy pour with appetizing head. Boastful malts and good fruits on the nose, and a layered and complex vineous body. Good beer to have before bed, a nice nightcap. Quite tasty.

Bottle. Pours brownish amber with a frothy white head. Smells intensely hopped, both piney and fruity. Tastes alot hoppier than most barleywines, some pine, some citrus, grass, and spicy hops, and tons of malty flavors follow it up. Carmely, brown sugar, molasses and crusty. Totally awesome.

On tap at Jerry’s. Caramel-amber with good, creamy beige head / Musty dry hop and citrus nose / Full body, good malts, but with only a touch of sweetness and big, biting hops on the excellent finish / Flavors of cut pine, apricots, and caramel / More of a triple ipa than a barleywine.

09 Bottle Reddish amber, creamy tan head. Smells of caramel, malt, citrus, pine, fruit, hops. Mouth is oily. Alcohol present, but it is delicious. Screw the vintage. Bigfoot is bigfoot. Would like to have a nice vertical. Hit me up.
