dwaggs2 (530), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Jul 3, 2008 Sierra Nevada really doesn’t make a bad beer. This one was no different. It is a darker red to brown. Perfect white head. Very heavy beer, it is a sipper. But it is worth every penny. Can’t taste the alcohol at all. mcnally (114), Burbank, California, USA Jul 2, 2008 Great looking reddish-brown pour. Lasting thin froth on top. Perfectly balanced big malts up front, with a backbone of medium intensity hops. Hop oriented finish like you’d expect from Sierra Nevada. Very rich mouthfeel, so you get what you paid for; definitely won’t finish your pack in one night. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle. Clear, dark amber pour with a medium size head. Aroma of sweet malt and bitter hops. Similar flavor with notes of dark fruit and licorice. Much hoppier than any other barleywine I’ve had. Very nice beer. tomthompson89 (1453), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2008 lovely beer!!! copper color, nice amount of foam on top, with good lacing, nose was cascade hops mainly but some pine in there too, some sweet malt and good alcohol. flavor was sweet the malts are right up front, dried fruits sugar and a good hop bitterness on the finish. Thick mouthfeel that was lovely. Great barely wine, on e of the best examples of the style dyetube (397), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 27, 2008 This beer pours a cloudy deep reddish amber with no head. Being a hophead, I really liked the amount of hops in this thing. it’s not normal for a barley wine, but it is refreshing. Also this is a little on the dry side which i liked; not an overpowering sweetness. I have had much better but this one really tasted good! Cheers! kragelund (49), , Denmark Jun 25, 2008 (Bottle) coloured amber, off-white surprisingly long lasting bobbled head leaving lacings Very malty nose. Initially short heavy sweetnes followed later by a lasting bitternes - but I miss something more in between those impressions. Bananamaniac (35), Kristinehamn, Sweden Jun 25, 2008 Good, but not the best barley wine I’ve tried so far. There are tons of hops in this beer, wich is nice. But it is mostly bitter and cascade flavours. I would have liked some more fruitiness, and maybe some raisinflavours, or maybe toffee, just anything to round it up.
Have one in my cellar, probably it will taste a bit better around christmas-time this year! Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. This definitely surprised the hell out of me when I took the first sip. From the slightly lighter color and much hoppier aroma than most Barley Wines, I knew something was a little different. But I wasn’t as mentally prepared as I my gave myself credit for.
Pours a dark hazy gold with a red hue and a thin white head (if one at all). Hops dominate the aroma, with a hint of flowers/fruits? The flavor is very hoppy and I really enjoyed the complexity. I thoroughly appreciate what’s going on with this beer.
