Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

lovely beer!!! copper color, nice amount of foam on top, with good lacing, nose was cascade hops mainly but some pine in there too, some sweet malt and good alcohol. flavor was sweet the malts are right up front, dried fruits sugar and a good hop bitterness on the finish. Thick mouthfeel that was lovely. Great barely wine, on e of the best examples of the style

This beer pours a cloudy deep reddish amber with no head. Being a hophead, I really liked the amount of hops in this thing. it’s not normal for a barley wine, but it is refreshing. Also this is a little on the dry side which i liked; not an overpowering sweetness. I have had much better but this one really tasted good! Cheers!

(Bottle) coloured amber, off-white surprisingly long lasting bobbled head leaving lacings Very malty nose. Initially short heavy sweetnes followed later by a lasting bitternes - but I miss something more in between those impressions.

Good, but not the best barley wine I’ve tried so far. There are tons of hops in this beer, wich is nice. But it is mostly bitter and cascade flavours. I would have liked some more fruitiness, and maybe some raisinflavours, or maybe toffee, just anything to round it up. Have one in my cellar, probably it will taste a bit better around christmas-time this year!

Bottle. This definitely surprised the hell out of me when I took the first sip. From the slightly lighter color and much hoppier aroma than most Barley Wines, I knew something was a little different. But I wasn’t as mentally prepared as I my gave myself credit for. Pours a dark hazy gold with a red hue and a thin white head (if one at all). Hops dominate the aroma, with a hint of flowers/fruits? The flavor is very hoppy and I really enjoyed the complexity. I thoroughly appreciate what’s going on with this beer.

A nice one from Sierra Nevada. Malty floral hops nose, a nice burgundy amber, and an egg-white head. Sweet and bitter combine nicely with a good bitterness lingering on the palate. Not bad at all.

12oz bottle, 2001 vintage, courtesy of mwsf. Thanks, Matt! Pours a dark, ruby-wooden color; slightest haze; off-white head with medium-bubbled head and patchy lacing; nice pour. Solid amounts of dried dark fruits, dried caramel (reasonably oxidized), sweet fruits, fruit leather, and candy sugar in the aroma; no alcohol. Full, chewy mouthfeel: sticky candy sugar, dried fruits (red and dark), plenty of sweetness coating the palate; big, sticky, juicy beer; slightly relaxed carbonation, adding to drinkability; very solid stuff after seven years. Sweet and very chewy stuff. Lengthy finish: candy sugar, dried fruits, fruit leather, and some biscuity malts at the far end.

First on tap the on 355 ml bottle - Amber brown beer with a thick creamy head. Aroma is very sweet and malty, notes of fruits and cascade. Flavor is again very malty, but not sticky. High level of maltiness here is very important if you are to enjoy this heavily hopped beer. Possibly a bit too hopped for one to enjoy this beer, definately needs some maturing. This beer certainly leaves a mark.
