Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

I love this beer. This is the one responsible for me getting into craft beer and I only had one left for aging. I was really disappointed but then, on a trip to Milwaukee I found a place that had 4, 6 packs left and I was able to get more. It is great now but just think of where it will be 10 years from now.

Bottle, Oddbins, Edinburgh. Poured a dark reddy brown with a lingering tan head, good bit of lacing. Aroma is packed wth hop and fruit - beautiful. Flavour is very sweet and bitter. Packed with fruit and hop again. Finish is malty with some fruit and lingers nicely. A real treat, enjoyed this very much.

2008. Good looking mahogany-ruby beer with a massive off-white head that sticks around and leaves lace. Aroma is mostly hops (piney, citrusy) along with some roasty maltiness too. Alcohol warmth becomes more apparent in the nose as it warms. The flavor starts with a sweet caramel malt and hops in the background, followed by some more roast barley / burnt notes, some alcohol warmth, and finishing with bitter hoppiness. This is a delicious barley wine.

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot 6/12/08 (bottle. Pours a reddish-brown oak with a cream colored one finger head. Great lacing. Bouquet of nuts, citrus, dark fruits,. Flavor is robust and sweet, a complex blend. Initial flavor is nutty with a smooth palate. Mid-flavor then reveals cherries, cream, vanilla, and light roasts. Delicious. Finishes of fruit and hops, complemented by some bitterness and alcohol. Overall, very well done and worthy of its rating. Though barley wines are not my favorite style, I would have this again.)

Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-14-2007 17:22:31 2007 bottle pured into a snifter. Yes! I have been waiting for this one for awhile now. The color is nice amber-red with a short white head that needed a little coaxing. The smell was slightly piney and really awesome. I actually had to sniff the beer for a couple minutes before I took my first drink. the taste was very hoppy pine with a slight hint of bubblegum. I don’t know where that comes from but I have detected it in Ruination at times. I didn’t get any of the chocolate flavors that are showing up in the 06 right now. This beer was amazing fresh and it will probably only get better. I think I better buy another case before this stuff is gone!

Hops for the sake of hops. My lab wouldn’t even drink it and she’ll eat last falls apples after the spring thaw.
