Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

The 2008 Expedition from a 12 oz bottle purchased locally. Aroma is piney and a little citrus orange. Brick amber that is brilliantly clear with a creamy beige head. Flavor very piney followed by malt and sweetness that is taken away by the bittering hops. Finish dries with a toasty biscuit background. Thick, rich and chewy, yet very balanced. Very dry for a beer this big. This beer is fantastic being this young and should be outstanding with some age.

This isn’t a Barleywine. It’s a IIPA. Nice amber pour with a small head. Sweet aroma but a knock out bitter taste and finish. Some citrus and some pine.

A LITTLE BIT EXPENSIVE $17 USC FOR A SIX PACK. I THINK IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE. NICE RED COLOR WITH A WELL BALANCED TASTE. I AM AGING ONE BOTTLE OF THE 2008 25 EXPEDITION I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO TRY IT IN TWO YEARS.

From a bottle poured a dark amber color with not much head. Very sweet hoppy flavor. With a lingering aftertaste.

Pours a nice coppery amber color with a thin, off-white head. Sweet, flowery hoppy aroma. A nice fruity taste with just the right amount of hops, which remain in the aftertaste. Just the right amount of sweetness to counterbalance the bitterness in the hops.

Bottle, 35cl, 2007 edition. Pours a ruby colored beer, with an off-white head. The beer is a little haze. The aroma is sweet and hoppy, with notes of fruits. The flavor starts hoppy, goes into some sweetness and ends with a fruity bitterness (grapefruit). A complex taste that takes the mouth on an interesting trip. The mouthfeel is thick and the bitterness in the aftertaste hangs in the mouth. Overall a very nice Barley Wine that, for sure, will gain with aging.

Pours amber with a nice beige head. Hoppy nose with fruit elements. Sweet flavour with hops, malt and dark fruits. Pleasant strong and bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Syrup texture. Very enjoyable if you like the barley style and hops.

12 fl oz bottle, 2008. Pours almost clear golden amber with a huge light tan to orange head. Delicate fresh fruity hops aroma, light pineneedle note. Flavour is very hoppy and fruity. Light initial sweetness. Goes into a more dry and intense pinewood and bitter flavour before the finish. Goes rather dry and bitter, yet maintaining a rather fresh fruity hops note as well. Disregarding the style, this is nice IIPA.
